Soumya's record is mediocre but his talent is undeniable. Atm he's more of a white ball player, but we hope he will find his feet in red ball cricket as well.

Same with Sabbir, although I would have given Mosaddek the cap instead of Sabbir.

This should be a good series with both teams very even on paper imo. I feel Sri Lanka will still have the mental edge over little brother BD although the tigers will take confidence in looking at a batting lineup with no Dilshan, Sangakarra or Mahela....

Tusher Imran there's a blast from the past, I remember watching him when BD we're still hopeless. Looked a good batsman but always had that one bad shot in him .....

BD have really forgotten about the old brigade once the likes of Sakib and Mushy hit the scene. They have really never looked back at guys like Tusher, Nafis Iqbal, Aftab etc. they really seem to have a 'youth policy' with selections very rarely do they bring back older players ......

In the olden days guys wemt straight from the U19 team to the national team. Ashraful, Aftab, Alok, Talha, Mortaza himself, Enamul Jr, Nazmul, Shahadat, Nafeeses (Iqbal and Shahriar), and maybe a few others Im forgetting now. You could almost build an entire XI from that list of failed teenage dubatants! At most, few of those guys probably had one A team series vs Zimbabwe before getting their Test cap.

It all changed with Mushy (18 on debut), Tamim (17), and Shakib (19). It took them a little while to get going, but they each proved their class was beyond the guys listed above. Shakib and Mushy are the oldest, turning 30 this year, so hopefully they have another solid 7 years left in the tank. I expect Tamim and Shakib to play till 36-37, and Mushy with his work ethic to play till 40. Including Mortaza, that is 4 teenage debutant successes from at least 13 experiments. Not a bad ratio, but we had to go through all the failures consecutively. They have been around a while. Mortaza is surely on his last legs (literally) after 7+ operations. I hope he can chug through the 2019 World Cup as he is still effective bowling at 125 kph.

Since then, with a more solid lineup the average age of debutants has increased. I think Mustafiz is the only throwback, went directly from U19 level to national team as a 19 year old. Taskin got his senior cap at 18, but had one season of BPL under his belt.

Right now we have a couple of young guys who might get a call up soon:

Mosaddek Hossain has played a few LOIs already, and been around the Test squad and with a first class average near 70 (despite bagging a pair on debut) with three double tons by his 21st birthday is the next in line I believe. Problem is, there is no space for him in the lineup unless we drop a specialist spinner from the XI.

Afif Hossain is a 17 yo left handed opener who's got 2 tons from his first 4 games and might be the next big thing.

Nazmul Hossain Shanto has already debuted in NZ and looked fairly solid, but again no space for him in the lineup. Lost his place in the squad to Mosaddek, who IMO should have gotten the cap ahead of him anyways.

Saif Hassan is another young opener who is doing fairly well. We already have 3 openers who are doing well in Tamim, Soumya, and Imrul. So tough for any new kids to get in.

We dont seem to have any spinners coming up, although perhaps the SLA Sanzamul Islam might be looked at. Leggie Jubair has fallen off the radar...I had huge hopes for him. Regardless, with Mehedi, Taijul, and Shakib we have 3 solid slow bowlers as it is.

Ebadat Hossain is a 23 yo fast bowler who I think would be the next quick in line for a call up in the near future. He's about 6 feet tall and bowls around the 140 mark. Unique background in that he comes from the Bangladesh Air Force and never played age group cricket. Just made his first class debut this season and done well so far.

With these young players doing well domestically, it's so important to keep them relevant. This is where 'A' tours become invaluable during the off season.
Situations where it is tough for new kids to get in- just what selectors want! Keep the old guard on their toes because some newbie is right here to take your place.
But I hope they are kept hungry & interested. To compliment the national team in England for the Champions Trophy, I would have an 'A' team touring England & Ireland. It gives the young blokes a chance to test themselves in unfamiliar conditions. Even just in Ireland. Even if the opposition is weaker, the 'A' team would be served up on lush green seaming wickets & able to demonstrate their skills.
I'll throw in Yasir Ali as another batsman who has done well this season. And Abu Jayed has performed well with the ball. But another who has done ok in the BCL is Abul Hasan. He had injuries after his test debut a few years ago where he hit a maiden century from no 10. He then disappeared for a while. He has batted consistently in the lower middle order & still opens the bowling, just not getting rewards.
Certainly exciting times ahead!

All this young talent coming through the ranks for BD sounds so exciting. For Zimbabwe there are only a handful
Of guys and most will probably leave anyways ......

Bear in mind I have only seen Mosaddek with my eyes as he has played a few ODIs. I stopped watching the BPL after the first 2 seasons back in 2013 so I can't comment. Besides, none of those first class guys got a BPL squad last year except Afif who took a fiver with his off spin (youngest ever in T20s). And Ebadat missed out as he was injured.

Keep faith jaybro,

Most of the handful of young talent will likely leave yes, but the bad environment (the politics) must end in the future. Change will come.

SL reach lunch on day 2 at 443-6...The tail is in so hopefully BD can keep them to not much more than 500.

Kusal Mendis with 194...classy batsman, youngest SL bat to reach 1000 runs in Tests. Very pleased Sandaka, the chinaman bowler has been picked...phenomenal talent that young man has.

The Tigers have thrown away 2 golden opportunities to draw away Tests, one in Wellington and the other in Hyderabad and did it with very poor shot selection. Had we drawn those 2 games, we'd be ahead of the West Indies in 8th position on the rankings. I hope we don't throw the opportunity away here. Don't have much of a problem if the Lankans earn the wickets, but dont want to see Shakib throwing it away again.

But those failures prove just how tough it is to draw a 5 day Test without rain intervention. But we need to be up to the task.

Looking forward to see how Mominul goes. He was the first Bangladeshi batsman to keep an average of 50+ for 20 Tests, but it has now dipped into the 40s after his 21st game.

Bangladesh avoid the follow on. Mushfiqur's batting form continues. He certainly is leading from the front in this regard.

15 runs short of 3 centuries in a row...maybe still a shot to get that. Tamim is current record holder with 2 consecutive tons (may have done it twice but not sure).

But we will have a pretty tough task to save this game if there isn't too much rain. I hope the rain stays away and we bat out 4+ sessions to draw this match. The pitch is still pretty good for batting.
