ZC should include 8 ZPL teams with 4 franchises, followed by proper distribution of players, to make the Pro 50 Tournament more Entertaining

As at 3pm on friday ZPL games were going ahead on saturday. A number of comps had cancelled club cricket due to this. 3.30pm all ZPL fixtures for the weekend cancelled. Meaning another week of players going without match practice. ZPL might be a farce but it beats net work especially when 80% of the national and A squads were scheduled to turn out. Players want to play cricket. Let them play. On a side note, all backend/admin staff earning over $500 per month at ZC having their salaries cut from April moving forward

Rainbow once again collapsed under the pressure to a demoralsing defeat chasing a gettable 204 against the Southern Lions. The lions were bolstered by a sparkling 90 from Richmond Mutumbambi who rescued the side from a trick 8 for 3 to 190 for 8 thanks. Mutumbami found able partners in Chibaba and Chisoro. Rainbow choked in the chase from 65 for 1 after 12 to 78 to 106 thanks to a 6 for from Chisoro who once again this year terrorised the much vaunted Rainbow batting line to make them look like boozers.

A sad day for my Rainbow side

Do yourself a favour.
Look up super Rugby results for Australia when they had three teams in the tournament.

Then look at results with 4 teams.

Then look at current results with 5 teams.

Ill give you a hint;
They are planning to cut a franchise due to talent dilution.

I've figured it out. Just stick a "Southern" in front of the team name and Mutumbami becomes a star.
I guess he'd have been an automatic selection in the national team 70 years ago :shock:

Rainbow CC defeated Amakohsi at Kwekwe sports club by 5 runs in a low scoring dog fight. After winning the Toss the Rainballes got of to a horrid start after being held back by A strong opening spell by Njabulo Ncube and Chris Mpofu who pegged rainbow to 35 for 6 in the 15th over on a suspect Kwekwe wicket. Rainbow recovered thanks to 90 + stand between Mavuta and a Gupo who was playing with a slipped disc. Mavuta put some life into the innings with an energetic 55 (43) with an array of unorthodox shots that saw him punish Nyumbu and Ainsly Ndlovu before falling to Mabuza. Gupo was next to go after holding up an end when he fell to a blinder one handed catch from Luke Jongwe from the back of his head at long on. Late contributions from Zhawi and Jakiel helped push Rainbow to 151 in 39.4 overs. With the pressure on rainbow put early pressure through some inspired bowling by the most inform bowler in Zimbabwe Zhawi who unsettled the Amakhosi openers to 16-2 after 10. Enter Luke Jongwe who at 3 who began the counter attack as he raced to 23 of 9 balls after being dropped on 10 by Zhuwao in the deep of Jakiel. Rainbow turned to inspirational skipper Munyede who strangled the end before Zhawi came back to get the wicket of the dangerous Jongwe. Brian Chari remained calm as he ticked the score along with some crisp drives with server punishment on Jakiel who was hit for 3 consecutives fours as Amakhosi threatened to take the game away once again. Munyede rung the changes and brought on under 19 Wesley Madhevere who bowled a tight line and slowed the Amaksohi innings in his 8 overs claiming the wicket of Mpofu batting at 6 and only going for 23 in his 8 overs with 2 maidens. Nyumbu came in Chari ensured that Amakhosi crossed hundred before Zhawi came back to get Chari pulling , with Mupunga comming back to get Nyumbu out.Mboyi and Ainsly fought back from the set back as they pushed Amakhosi ahead once again with to 8 runs needed in 11 balls before Mavuta took a brilliant return catch off Ndlovu and then getting last man Njabulo Ncube out with a slider to bring an end to a thriller with 6 balls to spare.

Eastern Lions beat Southern Lions by 6 wickets despite a 68 from Mutumbami for the Masvingo Side and thanks to a 55 from Doni Triripano

Takashinga Patriots 2 lost to Muzvezve Tigers thanks a staggering openning stand of 207 between Bothwell Chapungu and Tari Musakanda who scored 136 and 90 odd.

The standard has been okay the only issue i have is that the majority of the teams are provincial select sides which reflect franchises with the exception of Rainbow and Inkhata. Not really showing untapped talent.

Gargamel, why were you playing Amakohsi at Kwekwe? Is it cheaper for each team to go half the distance instead of one team travelling from Harare to Bulawayo or vice versa?

(And thanks for the report.)

Its cheaper as ZC wont have to foot overnight accomodation , and allowances. The serious problem is that both teams come seriously buggered sluggish and slow really compromises the games. We have made offers to travel to bulawayo and accomodate ourselves there but still no joy . Team that bats first tends to get the game as guys rest a bit more as opposed to batting second.
