Today Rhinos continue from their overnight second innings total of 187 for five wickets and they still trail by 25 runs here at Queens.
Day two began with Coventry and Gregory Strydom at the crease with their overnight scores of 10 and 17 respectively.
The skipper managed to get away with a well played 55 runs before falling victim to Taurai Muzarabani's bowling.
Keegan Meth provided the very small but appreciative crowd with three super sixes and nine fours to end up on 67runs.
Gavin Ewing made an impressive 62 runs and Dion Ebrahim put in a meaningful score of 44 runs while opener Bornaparte Mujuru contributed 19 runs.
Coventry recorded his second first class hundred but gave away his wicket to Malcom Waller.
The One Day International world record holder displayed some magnificent cricket emulating the Saeed Anwar type of play.
Coventry and Anwar share the world record of 194
runs while the Zimbabwean international was not out on the historic innings.
Anwar is a Pakistani batsman.
Rhinos were sent in to bat and made 207 runs for the first innings despite efforts by captain Vusi Sibanda who scored 111 runs.
The rest of the Rhinos team contributed 96 runs proving a poor display with the bat.
Christopher Mpofu claimed five wickets for 52 runs in 15 overs while his partner in destruction John Nyumbu picked up two wickets for 22 runs to hand Rhinos a follow on of 211 runs.
The Sibanda led Rhinos batted again for their second innings and Mpofu and Nyumbu went on a rampage yet again to give the Kwekwe based gentlemen all sorts of trouble.
Rick Wessels made 114 runs and fell victim to a more focused Mpofu.
This time around Sibanda was trapped leg before wicket for zero giving the fired up Mpofu seven wickets in the match so far. Brendon Taylor was on 36 at the of close play while Justin Lewis is yet to get off the mark leaving their total on 187 runs for the loss of five wickets.
Tuskers manager Ebrahim Khatib commended his boys for a good show down.
“There is unity in the team now and everything begins with synergy, I am happy its showing on the field. Weare happy as management with the current performance and the coach is comfortable, we now hope to get a result from this match,” said Khatib.
Play resumes for the final day at 10:00am at Queens today.
Now, how’s that? Anwar was left handed and certainly Coventry dosn't play like the former Pakistani opener, in his stroke play for otherwise. Knowing the Chronicle, Mr. Koti may have fallen victim to some inept editing therezimfan1 wrote:Could a Coventry century hand Tuskers a win?

Meanwhile the match between Matabeleland Tuskers and Midwest Rhinos ended in
a tame draw thanks mainly to the weather. Resuming at their overnight score
of 187/4 the Rhinos reached 419/7 when persistent drizzle drove the players
from the field shortly before tea. Brendan Taylor ensured the draw for the
visiting side as he scored a fluent 168 to deny the Tuskers a win.
