Updated LC batting stats

Post by cricket_22001 »

The LC is starting in December & here's hoping to an uninterrupted season with all players available & turning out.
Firstly, congratulations on the tour of Bangladesh. Not only on the test victory but the fight put up in the 2nd test.
With all the frustrations & disappointments of the last year, especially after there was hope when there was a change of government & the ICC put their bloke in charge of ZC, you deserve any & all positive results coming your way.
Anyway, below is my updated batting stats for the LC. Again, for about the 15th season, I apologize for the lack of formatting. Whenever I cut & paste it seems to float all over.
But the follows across the line as: Player, Matches played, Innings batted, not outs, Highest score, Aggregate of runs, 100's scored, 50-99 scores, Batting average. Hope this is of interest. It is my records of all who have scored 1000 runs+ since 93/94. I thank cricinfo & cricketarchive as my primary sources.

Looking at the averages guys like BT are over 60, Hamilton over 50 and Ervine & Williams over 40.

These young players coming through really need to be averaging over 40 if they want to do well and take these guys’ places.

Raza is the interesting one averaging 34 in Logan Cup

Very interesting
When you see P Strang and Streak in the 40’s and Gary Brent in the mid 30’s and then current batter wannabee’s lower than that it tells you that they’re not good enough.
And they ain’t ever going to be. The only exception that I can see is PJ, he seems to have really upped his game.

I don’t blame anyone for not doing this just just once I would love to see an in depth analysis of stats that actually matter.
Bar average against individual teams and on what field
Comparison when national players are there or not.
Bowling averages against top 6 batsman etc

Too much weird shit happens that skews the averages in the Logan Cup.

Thats pretty detailed shit for someone to pull off without professional tools. The numbers that have been posted ought to be a good enough start.

BT and Hammy average 60 and 50...that should be the benchmark for national team selection, barring the odd exception.

So when a Prince Masvaure averages 27, you know thats worth about 15 at Test level.

What would be more demonstrative, would be to run a regression analysis on these stats.

The fact the averages for the next generation are pretty low is concerning because they wouldn’t play against the best bowlers that often

Maybe its also because none of them want to be test specialists like Chakabva. We only play 2 or 3 tests a year so there is no money in it. They all want to be a Raza instead. Or get a gig like what Mavuta did. unfortunately this new generation couldnt care less about test cricket. This goes for all countries too

Sadly their averages and strike rates in the limited overs stuff aren't that flash either
