Afghanistan I don’t think will last too long. Once Rashid goes I think they won get much better. Too much dramas in the country and I wouldn’t be surprised if some mullah in charge bans the game over there. I’ve read some have tried.

I think the real new kids on the block will be Nepal. Sleeping giant there with a large cricketing Base.

Personally I wish the Netherlands would kick on. They would be great tours. Doubt it’ll happen.
Afghanistan do have a lot of talent coming up the ranks. The only thing they are lacking is talent in the seam bowling department. But as India (historically), Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh have shown, you can still be a good Test side in Asian conditions with one or two semi-decent quick bowlers.

I believe the Afghans have considerable talent in the batting department that is still waiting in the wings. In their current setup, only Nabi and Rahmat will make for good Test batters. Perhaps Stanikzai as well - although he is a terrible ODI batsman.

As for Nepal, their series wins in UAE were quite impressive. Nepal has long been a strong unit at the U-19 level, but where a terrible team at the senior level. They have finally gotten ODI status, and I hope they push on in the coming years. Possibly the next Test side by 2040 or so (???)

Most lucky teams have been Ireland and Bangladesh as they had very least achievement before getting test status.
Ireland had beaten mutliple Test sides at world cups and dominated the Associate level for over a decade before getting Test status. They beat Pakistan, Bangladesh, England, West Indies in successive World Cups. They got only a handful of chances and they took it.

Ireland have'nt been consistance their trumphs have been once in a blue moon. They struggled against Bangladesh & Zimbabwe not even successfull in giving competition, only great thing about Irish Cricket is their Board, which has been effective in arranging fixtures and in 2019 Irish cricket will have busy schedule, hope rain doesnt damage the fixtures as their season seems starts in a Rainy season.

Ireland showed some character in their innaugral test against Pakistan and it seems they are taking this format for raising consistent performance in the games.

What do you mean once in a blue moon? They have played in only 3 world cups and have already knocked off 3 major sides, 5 if you include Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. Every world cup they play in, they are beating 1-2 established sides. 2015 they were closet to qualifying for the quarterfinals. Their team might suck now, but the last 10-12 years Ireland has been a very tough side. They deserved Tests status far more than Afghanistan (who deserved it themselves) or Bangladesh.

Kenya also had a great World Cup in 2003, earlier they beat strongest West Indies Side in 1996 World Cup, demand to give them test status was high but it got diminished because of lack of performances in billateral tournaments. Afghans played one 50 over world cup and registered a win similar to Bangladesh who beat strong Pakistan Side, but failed to achieve success in billateral tournaments at that phase. BCCI was efffective in ICC demanding test status for Bangladesh as a matter of political help which Kenya didnt get from South Africa or Zimbabwe.

Afghans billateral series performance has been accepted massively, they won against Zimbabwe, Bangladesh, Windies troubled Sri Lanka, always have been instrumental in giving tough fights to test playing nations whenever they featured which lacked in Irish team, except World Cup wins they haven't been good in billateral assignments against test playing nations.

The problem with the Irish is they have 4 batsman over 35 and another 33/34.
If children of men were a cricket team, Ireland would be it.

In 3 years it’ll be Zimbabwe.

Ireland’s recent A Tour of Sri Lanka shows there’s definitely some talent coming through, with Niall O’Brien & Ed Joyce retiring expect to see some fresh faces into the side which should boost them.

Also the Irish will always benefit from English ( And South African) players with Irish heritage who decide its better to take the ancestors route to international cricket to ensure a better chance of getting a cap.

Looking at the the three sides Afghanistan, Ireland & Zimbabwe it’s hard to argue that Zimbabwe has the bleakest outlook 😥

Ireland are great beneficiaries of the ancestry passport which benefits those with a grandparent born there OR ethnically Irish that have proactively registered their children’s birth BEFORE they were born to maintain an unbroken chain.
With This generation though I don’t think we will see many Africans of Irish heritage as the grandparents were probably born in Africa too. Doubt there were many to begin with. Italy has a similar system.

Designed to get back to the goodfellas and guys in the departed that fled during WW2 and various wars since.
Because they are in the EU they have EU full working rights so they can’t be excluded form British county. Brilliant for them, until Brexit at least, by my understanding
