Probably just a clean up of sorts, now is a good time for him to do it as he won't have any cricket for a few weeks at least

Great chance for him, the pitch actually looks really good now it's dried out more the ball is coming on nice. He'll have a good chance to play some shots v the new ball show us what he's got

Irrespective of the bowling attack and the state of the pitch, this is a monumental effort from Mathews to play such a long innings given his persistent injury issues. Deserves a double hundred.

Ah, that's sad for Kevin. A shame about Kasuza, really unfortunate--hope he's ok for the second Test.
Only following on cricinfo today: is my impression wrong that our bowlers (especially Jarvis) have not exactly been lucky over the last couple of sessions?

My word Ndlovu is dull. He just sends it down. Could be the pitch, could not be, but at least vary it up and not just send it always straight down the middle.
Is it just me or is HSC one of the bigger grounds in the world. Just seems like there is so much space on that field.

I think they'll declare once Mathews gets his double hundred.
