ICC BOSS VISITS ZIMBABWE TO DISCUSS HOSTING POSSIBILITIES

International Cricket Council (ICC) Chief Executive Manu Sawhney has visited Harare to hold preliminary discussions with Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC)’s top brass on the hosting of ICC events in the period from 2023 to 2031.

Sawhney, accompanied by ICC Commercial General Manager Campbell Jamieson, today met with ZC Chairman Tavengwa Mukuhlani and the ZC executive trio of acting Managing Director Givemore Makoni, Director of Cricket Hamilton Masakadza and Head of Finance and Administration Feroza Shariff before proceeding to meet Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation Minister Kirsty Coventry.

His visit is part of the ICC's initiative to meet all members to brief them on the process to be adopted for the allocation of ICC events in the 2023-2031 cycle comprising eight men’s events, eight women’s events, four men’s Under-19 events and four women’s Under-19 events.

“The main purpose of their visit was to discuss with us the next ICC cycle, which is 2023-2031, and the various possibilities that are there for us to host ICC events,” Mukuhlani said.

The ZC Chairman said Zimbabwe will be looking to bid for more ICC events after successfully hosting the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2018 and the ICC Women’s Qualifier Africa 2019.

“Those qualifiers were, in the ICC's view, the turning point for what is possible in Zimbabwe,” Mukuhlani said.

“They were able to see that there is a cricket culture and that there are cricket fans here.

“They were impressed with what they saw in 2018 and the way we hosted and that will always be a reference point when we make proposals to bid for the next ICC events.”

During their meeting, the parties also took the opportunity to discuss the strategic business, financial and cricket plan that ZC and the ICC have been working on together since 2018.

“We also discussed ZC and where we are in so far as our programme with the ICC is concerned, how far we have progressed and how things are shaping up here in Zimbabwe,” Mukuhlani said.

“It was a positive engagement and we are looking forward to a better future for ZC and our cricket.”

I’m not totally buying into this explanation.
Why have we not been given a reason why our funding has been cut by $4m?
What assurances do we have that it is temporary?
What possible reason could there be for such a cut?
The last time we hosted those qualifiers there was ample evidence that it was extremely poorly done, despite the usual spin doctoring, yet they’re supposedly coming back for more? I foresee a regional women’s event perhaps?
Here’s my prediction-
There’s no way we’re getting our full allocation back, they’re seeing if we can survive on half of it, it’s a little experiment and if we don’t sink then that’s our lot in life.
We’ll keep limping along because that’s about all ZC have ever put in the game anyway.
I suspect the offer of extra money to host whatever event they’ve got planned is Sore Knee tossing Mukhulani a bone for double crossing him and saving his skin and then chopping his piggy bank in half. ZC will grab it because they made some serious cash over the qualifiers, they mowed the lawn and gave some decrepit old buildings a lick of cheap paint.

There’s something that doesn’t add up with this Sore Knee guy, I’m very skeptical. He’s the Grim Reaper for us.

It’s not dissimilar to this disgrace of a Health Minister not doing anything about the free flow of people to and from China when there’s about to be a world-wide pandemic.
When that virus takes hold here we are in a world of hurt.
In fairness we’ve outshagged HIV and Ebola so we’ll deal with this, but it will take a massive toll.
With proper administration we’d never have lost the $4m and we wouldn’t be tolerating this corrupt and devious snake sliming around here up to no good.

That picture of them posing in front of a list of sponsors is about as disingenuous as it comes as well
There’s also an interview with Mukhulani and Masakadza done by Larry K, one of their avid supporters.
We’ve seen from past experience that they only show face and start talking when the shit has hit the fan somewhere. I’m smelling a giant rat.

So it gets a bit clearer. It’s vote buying time at ICC and these guys are on a lobbying exercise.

Hopefully they decide to fund a two test series for Zimbabwe when Ireland tour ?

Probably not, the ‘gift’ the ICC gave Mukuhlani & his mates was backing them last year v the SRC.

Good questions. are
1 How does cutting salaries on players while the ZC Board is over paid makes sense
2 Can the ICC help in recruiting foreign based Zimbabwean to play for Zimbabwe and raise standard of Zimbabwe Cricket
3 How is the ICC helping in African cricket - like helping Zimbabwe , Kenya & Nambia players , playing in the South African league

They really need to be questioning the running of the game. Our domestic sides don't even have proper uniform. We have 11 guys out on the field all wearing different styles and colours, it's like back in school days when you're told to bring a certain colour and guys bring anything close to it.

Also, seeing the fake Heath Streak account on twitter. Tavengwa up to his tricks again. These guys have no shame and the ICC literally do not care.

1. Nobody knows exactly what admin gets paid. They will say they’ve taken the cut and who’s going to prove otherwise?
2. That’s not the ICC’s job. You’re only talking about a small handful of people anyway. ZC only try to resolve the immediate crisis, tomorrow doesn’t come into it. If we are still playing cricket in a few years time when the Big 5 retire then they might shop for any UK based players and repeat the cycle, not a minute before. Remember their goal is no embarrassing defeats, building a team that can win anything is not really on their radar. The proof of that is the musical chairs we see of decent players who will never cut it on the international stage.
3. Again not the ICC’s job. They’ve only got a certain amount to waste throwing bad money after countries that can’t help not stealing and who can’t run a piss up in a brewery and where 95% of the population have no interest in cricket. Do you think they don’t know it’s not going to work? They know Zimbabwe is a lost cause. They’re happy to work with this regime because they can control it for their own ends, we’re pawns in their bigger picture of their own agendas, power struggles and box ticking.
They’ve watched us sink inexorably into the quagmire and they’re under no illusions of what they’re dealing with here. They’ve worked out what it costs to run our joke of cricket, including a pilfering allowance and lo and behold that’s what we’re now getting.
