Hypothetical u30 team

Post by Zimco »

As there is no Zim cricket to follow I thought I would make a youngsters Zim team. This would be my team of players u30 for Zim . All are u 25 except for Chatara and are theoretically eligible to play for Zim as they have not played for a full member team (yet).

Look at this team

1. Welsh
2. Byrom
3. Muyeye
4 Wes
5 Goodwin
6 Ryan higgins
7 Murray
8 snater
9 chatara
10 nyangani
11 blessing

Now try it again just with the players who have committed to us.
The scary version.

It's a strong side, but too white for ZC, so never going to happen

Gary King, Evans, Lake.
I'm not sure we've seen the last of Lake. He's too good a player just to leave cricket behind. It wouldn't surprise me to see him next year in our FC.

Are they that good though?
Gary king I would not have ever heard of if you didnt mention him a few times, and hes not playing a high level atm.
evans, the same up until this year. Seems like he is good enough to make it in our test team without setting it on fire both results and pacewise. Would be very lucky to get to chatara level. Hope so though.

Lake seemed the ultimate rocks and diamonds youngster. 0,0,130,4 etc
To be frank Zim have too many of those and have plagued us since day one. Our best, such as Taylor, were similar. Only Flower had dependability.

Fair point, the lack of consistency we have in our ranks is disastrous and its either the municipal water or the abysmal FC standard and the lack of competition for places.
Even Byrom, whom I consider to be amongst the best when he's on song just can't string scores together. Welch, who is about as determined and gritty as you get suffered the same problem. We'll see soon enuf how he goes in a proper environment because he could be excused for being a bit erratic in Two's as he coached himself for three years.
I haven't seen King play for years so I probably shouldn't be mentioning him, but he was damned good at school and he's a determined smart guy.
Unless Evans can find another 5-10kph he's going to struggle to get noticed unless he can bowl immaculate line and length ad nauseum. We'll only ever know when we see him against quality players. He runs the risk of being a containing bowler and unless he's bowling in tandem with someone decent he's not going to take many wickets.
Unless you're a freak like Flower, consistency is only really possible if you play 30-50 games a year and get to know your own game intimately and face quality opposition regularly. If our FC guys were able to play 30-40 games a year half would find the work load too much, they're lazy and what most of them think is practice is not even close to whats required. Plus they wouldn't play 30 games for $500 a month either.
