2024 U-19 World Cup format change!

Post by Kriterion_BD »

Instead of top 8 going to knockouts, the top 12 will qualify for a two parallel Super Sixes, with the top 4 going onto the semifinals.

What this means is as long as Zimbabwe finish ahead of Namibia in their group, they will progress to the second round!

They’ve killed a great format. The Plate was great for the smaller teams. Now the associates are fucked. Sad really. The u19 format has worked very well for many many years.

Zimbabwe have been drawn with hosts Sri Lanka, Australia and Namibia. If we qualify for the next round (top three go through) we likely play England, South Africa and West Indies.

It’s a shame we won’t have the usual Plate rankings rounds where will have some opportunities to actually win a match. In this format we are likely to beat Namibia and then get trounced by the rest unfortunately!

Yeah, I think the earlier format was doing fine! It's still not the worst thing in the world though, I think this will give us more competitive games than directly going into the KOs.

Quite a bit more cricket coming up for the U19's before the WC starts properly.

3 matches against the Zim Emerging XI.
Series in Bulawayo hosting SA U19's.
2-week camp in India.
3-match series against Ireland in Sri Lanka
2 official warm-up fixtures

Host changed, but hilariously SL are still able to play the u19WC despite being suspended. We weren't allowed to play ICC events when we were suspended  One rule for one, another rules for others hey.

Ya we get the crap deal every time

If BT played for anyone else he’d have got a slap on the wrist and congratulations for robbing Mr X of 15k with no intention of following his fixing through.

All of this came from a video interview with Utseya.

It's now just 6 weeks before the first match and none of this has started yet. Prosper is busy playing in the Legends League thing in India.
