Good conversation.
I guess I just don’t understand it from a perspective of, what possesses people to randomly beg for certain players they have clearly never watched to be in a team anyway, especially a foreign team? It’s like me writing to random Indians on Twitter ‘please sir Singh, Khan and Sharma in Indian team will win’ or something without having never watched whatever players they are. Bizarre. The games are streamed, if these random folk really are interested and really interested in certain players then at least watch them before the incessant social media or forum annoyance?
As for selections and quotas, there’s obviously certain bias at times. It’s difficult to pin that down as being a race thing though. We see Innocent Kaia frequently dropped, more easily than other guys, for example. We’ve also seen Mufudza shut out for an extremely long time. So it’s not just white players who get a hard time. At the same time Ervine could probably go three years without scoring a run and then shag Makoni’s wife and he’d still get picked because he’s with the in-crowd. So I think biased selection happens both white and black unfortunately. Our selections are just shit.
If we suddenly had a national team that had 8-9 white guys then ya I think that would become a problem for some people here, unfortunately. But this is unlikely to happen because we just don’t have many in the entire system anyway. And let’s remember we do have plenty of decent black cricketers too so I don’t think we are going to reach a point where the vast majority of the best team would be white anyway. Not in the next five years. So this probably won’t be a problem that happens.
What’s clear though is that the board, the admin, the system as a whole is desperate to find talented black youngsters. Especially batsmen. They will probably get slightly more opportunities or slightly earlier opportunities than the average young white kid. Probably. But then we’ve seen Bennett getting early opportunities too so that’s not always clear cut either.

Nah there is no quota.
As has been stated; Jono is basically competing with Burl and Raza for their place, that’s why he never gets picked. Evans has been injured forever and Welch went off the rails

Ervine is the man but sneaks under the radar a bit compared to Raza and Williams. He’s a great guy and the suits seem to like him.
