Will Sean Williams ever return?

Post by Zayn_63 »

With the tri series done & no test match being held in december between pak & zim, ZC selectors surely need to take a look at the players they wanna carry to the World T20 2026. Craig is 40, no point in recalling him now.. though that can happen if they have made their final decision regarding williams. Craig is still Zims best T20i captain.. he scored a 70 last year against SL. He is a lefty, not an attacking all rounder like williams but might do the job in the powerplay, especially with Taylor in poor form.. Munyonga, musekiwa, maposa, myers, marumani, wellington should be axed if I am being honest.. Naqvi , Curran, Welch should be added .. Naqvis talent speaks for him.. Welch has played t20.. Curran has an average of 48 in ODI. I think Madande should be in the Playing XI as WK batsman at no4. If he fails, get Taylor back in. At this point, ZC selectors dont really have much of a choice but to pick Madande. Tsiga is their red ball WK in tests. I excluded Marumani because I believe he is done for the moment, if ZC wants to give him more chances, they can but that should happen after the world cup. Nobody here will debate whether they should just pick a new guy from the domestic scene & have him take a spot as WK in place of madande. Burl should be tried up the order at no3. If Burl is sent up the order, it leaves only Raza as the real finisher. If Raza comes up the order, Burl is the only finisher. Can that somehow lead ZC into recalling Sean Williams? His left arm spin can prove to be effective in Sri Lanka & India, especially towards the end of the world cup. With williams & raza both at the end as finishers, I think Zimbabwe can outperform most of the teams in their group. My squad for T20 WC 2026:

Raza(C)
Burl(VC)
Madande(WK)
Taylor(Backup WK)
Ervine
Williams
Naqvi
Welch
Curran
Bennett
Evans
Cremer
Muzarabani
Ngarava
Campbell

What is your take on williams returning and the squad that should get selected for the world cup keeping the playing conditions in mind?

Unless he changes his last name to Madhevere, there's no way he'll be allowed back into the national side after a drug issue

Sean W can get in if Only Raza or the Coach ask for him..
Also Icc might have given ZC firm warning about him skipoing the drug test..Time will tell..

No that squad missing Maposa and Welly , i dont believe the selectors can swallow that pill..

My humble view the Wk should bat 5th whether it BT , MARUMANI OR the useless Madande..

Bennet
Welch or Curran
Burl
Raza
Wk
Naqvi
Munyinga or Musekiwa

Sean is done for. Not sure if how Marumani is done for though?
