The potential new kids on the block for Zimbabwe

Post by lobsang »

Well the T20 World Cup campaign is over for Zimbabwe and now let’s have a discussion on who could be next big things for Zimbabwe from the current crop of young players available and raring to play for Zimbabwe.

Tatenda Chimugoro: huge potential if this kid has the hunger and desire to play at the highest level. He can bowl and if he works hard on his batting, he can be a great asset for Zimbabwe at number 6 or 7, can hit it out of the park effortlessly.

Kian Blignaut: can he become the next Brian Bennett for Zimbabwe. Quite talented with bat and could potentially be the number 3 batsman for Zimbabwe in all formats.

Webster Madhidhi : a young fast bowler who seems to have the goods to become a great fast bowler, showed great mettle against India at the recently concluded Under19 World Cup.

David Bennett: he is in his final year at the university and coming back. Very talented but not that serious about his cricket as said by Brian Bennett in one of his recent interviews. This kid is way better than Munyonga, Madande and Musekiwa to say the least.

Patel brothers : seen them batting on few occasions and they are young and have the goods and potentials to be good enough to represent Zimbabwe at the highest level.

Mathew Welch: another good prospect but have not seen much of him batting but the members on this forum have high opinion of him.

Mathew Campbell: a left handed batsman, younger brother of Jonathan Campbell, who scored a hundred few days in the Logan cup. Could be another good prospect for Zimbabwe at the top order.

Kundai Matigimu: yes he is 28 but very new to international scene, lots of hype around this lad before he debuted for Zimbabwe, had a very mild outing so far but Ngarava also had a very ordinary start to his career but improved a lot as the time went by.

Antum Naqvi: not a youngster at all but we will definitely see him play for Zimbabwe somewhere down the line. Maybe 2027 ODI World Cup. Could become the next Raza.

Kundai Matigimu is 28, so not a kid.

I think it be hard to believe 4 out of this recent under 19 world cup will go on to represent Zim.

Kian it appears has come back to school cricket and shown he is a level above, so i have more hope for him to make an impact later on in his career.

Kian Blignaut and and Madhidi are the only two who I see representing Zimbabwe in the long run there.
The camobell brothers I see being very dependable FC cricketers, but nothing more.

None of the younger guys coming through the system fill me with much excitement. I think we should be looking at the diaspora.

Eddie Byrom: Eligible to play for Zimbabwe, but his numbers are not all that impressive. Will he make himself available ahead of the 2027 World Cup? I hope so. A little competition at the top the order won't hurt.

Tawanda Muyeye: Will probably represent England, but throw some money at him, you never know. A great replacement for the ageing Craig Ervine. Speaking of Craig, he's been great for us, a legend of the game. It is time for him to step aside in my opinion.

Hilton Cartwright: In theory, he could feature for Zimbabwe the next time we play an international. Does he want to play for us though?

Tom Curran: Last played for England in 2021. Shouldn't be hard for him to get a passport, right? Does he want to play for Zimbabwe though? Will the Communists allow him to play?

Ryan Higgins: Brad Evans and Ryan Higgins in the same lineup will make us look like early 2000s South Africa with Shaun Pollock and Lance Klusener at 7 and 8. In theory we could field a 5 man pace attack in Tests: Muzarabani, Ngarava, Evans, Chivanga, Higgins.

Jayden Goodwin: Is he even interested?
____________
Some returnees:

Sean Williams: He will play in the 2027 World Cup. End of story.

Gary Ballance: Has he given up on playing entirely? Can bat at 3 or 4.

Colin de Grandhomme: Maybe I'm going crazy, but if he's fit and can still bat, bowl and field... why not?

Hamilton Masakadza: Just wanted to make sure you were still reading.
____________
Let me hallucinate an eleven that we should be fielding in the 2027 World Cup, but won't because we hate winning:

1. Brian Bennett (c)
2. Ben Curran
3. Jayden Goodwin
4. Tawanda Muyeye
5. Sean Williams
6. Sikandar Raza
7. Tafadzwa Tsiga (wk)
8. Ryan Higgins
9. Brad Evans
10. Richard Ngarava
11. Blessing Muzarabani

12. Eddie Byrom
13. Graeme Cremer
14. Ryan Burl
15. Tadiwanashe Marumani (wk)

Bosses the NPL every year. He’d be a better ritual selection, even now, than some of the current picks

Yeah... None of those will ever play for Zim, will they.
