Re: 5th T20I | Zimbabwe vs Bangladesh | May 12, 2024
Another very poor 6 hitter is Wes. He might actually have to be the guy who plays anchor in the future. Just to put it into perspective Bennet has hit 10 sixes in 11 games. Wes has only managed 14 sixes in 60 games. I used to think it was just an age thing but Bennett has proven that to be false. Ma...

Re: 5th T20I | Zimbabwe vs Bangladesh | May 12, 2024
We just aren’t a T20 country Almost all our bats appear bedy classically trained. One of the reasons we seem to put up more of a fight in tests in terms of batting. What always surprises me with our guys is why they don’t swing more in the power plays. There’s way more room for error as you just ne...

Re: 2004 Team v 2024 Team
Interesting points of view. It’s a question people ask in other sports as well when they compare greats. One way of looking at is to say just pure evolution mixed with technological advances would mean that athletes today are better conditioned to compete. At the same time you would expect some of t...

Re: 2004 Team v 2024 Team
Also from a bowling perspective around that time Panyngara and Rainsford had some gas. Elton was a decent bowler then as well. I think they were all bowling above 135kph then but injuries affected them badly. Something you can’t predict. We are lucky to have Blessng and Ngarava right now so that’s t...

Re: 2004 Team v 2024 Team
Interesting question. What I did was look at the 2004 squad here and the u19 squad from 2004 which also had Cremer, Ervine, Williams, Mawoyo plus other guys who didn’t play for Zim like De Grandhomme and James Cameron. I would take the 2004 situation if that’s what I had to work with in theory plus ...

Re: 2023-2031 FTP news, updates, etc
This is good. The Rising Stars programme had a lot of talent and I think 9 or 10 of them played at least one game for Zim. I hope it’s more of an ‘A’ squad than an emerging squad. Guys around the national team already like Gumbie, Evans, Welch Sr, Bennet, Myers and Campbell can use those matches to ...

Re: 5th T20I | Zimbabwe vs Bangladesh | May 12, 2024
What I did notice about Marumani was that when he did get that score of about 30 he was nervous at the beginning but once he got his first comfortable boundary he seemed a lot more confident. Suggests to me it’s a mental thing but at the same time he is 40 international games in with 1 half century ...

Re: Sean Williams retiring from T20i
The time has come. I would like to see Welch, Wes and K-long come in for Craig, Sean and Gumbie against India. Although Gumbie might be needed to play Craig’s role. Myers has to do a full season to send the right message to young players I think

Re: Sean Williams retiring from T20i
To be honest I just want them to hang on until the England test. There are quite a few test matches lined up over the next 12 months. The SA and NZ are scheduled to play tests against us next year. I would be very surprised if they cancel all of them. To me it just officially confirms Sean’s semi re...

Re: 5th T20I | Zimbabwe vs Bangladesh | May 12, 2024
Whispers saying Williams may be retiring with a possibility of Ervine as well. Will keep updated. Interesting. Whether it’s true or not is not the point for me. What worries me is that these retirements can still happen much closer to the 2027 World Cup. If it’s true I hope they play the India seri...
