Vitori was outstanding that game as well. Mawoyo, Taylor, Mutumbami and H Masakadza too I think all stood up when it counted most and we were able to grind our way to a big enough total.jaybro wrote:Kriterion_BD wrote:
I think beating Waz and co in Pak (by an innings??) was infinitely bigger.
Not saying isn't wasn't, but for me watching Chatara take the last few wickets and sealing victory was more special then reading an old scorecard .....
That final morning was fantastic. I loved how the cameras followed the team into the rooms afterwards as everyone was celebrating and cracking open a beer - Zimbabwe play cricket the way it should be played IMO, everything seems more relaxed and genuine and I think it's fantastic. In Australia it's all a bit fake/forced/commercialised at times... could never be seen having a beer after a game in case the PC crowd think it's promoting alcohol abuse. Or worse still, in case it's a rival sponsors brand...

Wonder what more Wasakadza has to do to get into the side.

Re: Zimbabwe bowling problems
As for Zim's bowling problems... focussing just on ODIs right now, the first thing to do is forbid Panyangara from bowling at the death.
He's a good opening bowler, he keeps it tight. I'd let him bowl out his 10 overs up front - or if the spell is too long, then maybe 7 and a further 3 during the middle overs.
What's happening now is he's going for say, 0/20 from his first 6 - which is fantastic. Then going for 0/50 from his last 4 which is shocking.
The way I see it, anyone can bowl at the death and get smacked around. But not everyone can go at 3 or 4 an over at the start of an innings. So let Panyangara bowl his quota early and settle for the 0/40 he'll provide.
I'd also get the spinners into the game a bit earlier. We seem to leave Cremer's introduction quite late I feel. With no Chatara in the side, he is the only genuine wicket taker. When he bowls, he's always a chance... I feel with our medium pacers though they are just waiting for a mistake rather than forcing one.
We should give Vitori a longer run in the side... someone of his talent should have played more than 19 ODIs in 4 years. He is someone who can get genuine swing at pace.
We need to unearth another quick as well. Haven't seen Mumba before, but maybe he's worth a go based on recent stats.

Re: Zimbabwe bowling problems
Cremer could make the test side solely on his batting, let alone the fact he is our best spinner.

Re: Zimbabwe bowling problems
I think the bowling problems at the death are based on the fact that we as a team and our national team dont have actual game situations where they can practice their game plans and hone their skills. There are three players who i personally consider as the best death bowlers in Zimbabwe being Tatenda Mupunga ,Donald Tiripano and Daniel Jakiel with the later who has never bowled a List A or First Class game but can bowl a yorker at will

Re: Zimbabwe bowling problems
Part of the problem is that promising players aren't picked for god knows what reason. I was shocked to see Musoko was in the Test squad against South Africa last year...and then he's dropped off the face of the planet. What the fuck?
And then guys like Utseya keep getting selected for no reason. He was useful for his economy at his best, but he was probably chucking all along who knows. He still couldn't buy a wicket. Now he's bowling slow mediums and is just wasting a spot.

As pointed out by Hhm Mongongo was more 'active' in bringing in the younger players, Whatmore seems to be focussing on improving our current bunch ......
