One player we REALLY need...

Post by ZIMDOGGY »

i cant think of a better time for the return of this man.

http://www.cricinfo.com/ci/content/player/4470.html

bowls 155km/hr at max speed.

Why is he never mentioned?
Why hasnt he been approached?

He is young enough...ugly enough to play.

Hes on the outer at QLD. Unlikely he will return.

And let me say one thing....its ALOT harder to crack Australian state cricket than english county cricket. Every Australian state is test quality.

Is Scott Brant 95-96 MPH material ?? :| Personally i doubt it. If he was bowling that fast he'd have played a match in 2009.
I think there's a number of players that we NEED to return. The lkes of:

. Sean Ervine (Class performer)
. Murray Goodwin (With him he'll bring solidity in the batting line up)
. Tinasche Panyangara (Could easily solve our pace probolem)
. Anthony Ireland (Another guy who could make an impact with the new ball)
. Gary Balance (Great young talent)

In my opinion Scott Brant is at the bottom of my list

I have personally seen him on TV bowl above 150km/hr

About the same speed as Mitch Johbson.

The credit of unearthing Scott Brant for the forum members must go to zimfan1 and andy24: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=364&p=5778#p5756 :)

If he is still in shape despite not playing recently, he must be lured back home, a-la Murray Goodwin. A left arm fast bowler is the need of the hour...

Oh really?

That was 2009.

I watched him on TV in 2001.

There was a ONE PAGE article on him in Australias national newspaper when he was a teenager saying he could bowl at 155/km hr...Hence why i mention he can bowl quick. He was considered the 3rd fastest bowler in Aus at that time, even in his teens.
Mark Vermeulen even spoke about him in an interview in 2004.

The quote was roughly:
"There is a phenomenal player out there named Scott Brant who plays in Australia who isnt coming back, which is a shame because he is soneone we can use".

I find it odd you attribute credit to a known player to a user on this forum, who only mentioned him recently?

they will never let him return.
Unless he changes dramatically.

Only meant that he has been discussed in the forum before, and many of us got to know about him only then.

I went to school with Scott Brant and I have to say he was an outrageously talented sportsman, being pretty much good at everything. Around the time he was last playing for QLD, I remember reading an article about how he now had his own business in partnership along with his younger brother. Along with injuries this may explain why he is no longer on the scene. I guess he may still be playing grade cricket, which to be honest is a very high standard. He never struck me as being a prolific wicket taker but was a very economical left arm seamer (not outrageously quick). I think a fully fit Scott Brant would have a good chance of making the Zim team though this is one of those extremely unlikely to happen (along with Murray Goodwin and probably Gary Ballance) scenarios. Another point worth making is that a lot of the world's fast bowlers bowl around 85mph so express pace is a luxury rather than the norm, an ability to bowl a consistent line and mix it up is more useful...

Fair enough :|
Yeah it'd be good if the guy came back and played, but in reality it won't happen. Like Treidzi rightfully pointed out, this applies to Murray Goowin and Gary Balance. All the memebers on this forum would be extremly happy if either 1 of these guys gave Zimbabwean Cricket another shot, but it's not going to happen. Goodwin and Balance are both earning money for their county in Sussex and Yorkshire and Brant (i presume) is playing grade cricket down under.
