Yet again cricket is so antiquated. The Zimbabwe football team doesn't only select Zimbabwean-based players, why must the cricket team do so? Why can't cricket be like football where players can play domestically anywhere without it affecting their national team status?

ICC is also shit! Smaller nations cannot afford this talent drain. Then when the team inevitably performs badly with second string players, the very same ICC excludes them from the WTC.

surely cricket has become more stable in Zimbabwe within the last couple years. Doesn't seem to be as many disputes and the rest of that u19 cohort has transitioned into the team pretty nicely

ZC is stable and going along okay at the moment but the country as a whole isn't. It's as bad as ever here - Covid has decimated what little of the economy was still left. Hard to ask a young kid based in the UK to give up earning a fortune (by Zim standards...) and living in a first world country in order to move back to a third world country that is at breaking point and earn pennies playing a handful of cricket matches a year. Even if ZC threw BT/Jarvis type money at some of them I don't think it would be enough.

Our best hope of attracting Welch/Schadendorf/Murray etc back home is if they don't settle in the UK and get homesick.

Stop pining over people that have left, and concentrate on the talent that is still in Zimbabwe tbh. There's still plenty here.

If they fails to do anytime, some day Zim cricket will struggle for existance. A big example is Kenya cricket.

Muyeye is gone for a lot of reasons. DS is young. As people say hard to give up lots of cricket and a stable income to play for Zim. I wonder if they don't get their contracts renewed, though, (thinking NW specifically) if that would make a return more tempting.

Agree with secretzimbo's point in general. That it is pointless pining for them. But it is hard not to when we are not flush with players.

It is my opinion that Nick Welch would definitely play for Zimbabwe if his English contract isn’t renewed and the money playing for Zim is decent.
Whilst I am not ‘in the know’ on that, I have some credible evidence to suggest he’s not a huge fan of the UK.
