You watch these County keepers- they do drills and one on one stuff for hours. They do the same with slip fielders.
There's some stuff on YouTube that Ian Healy used to do. There was a clip of those really low diving catches that was really good.
He was a ridiculously good keeper. Jack Russel must be up there with the best of all time, some of his stumpings border on genius.
That's why I used to go on about Murray. I would doubt he spent too much time being coached, he was just freakishly good behind the stumps naturally.
No world class leggie for example, appears without him going to a leg spin coaching guru and then spend countless hours developing their skills.
We need specialist coaches so badly, even if they were around for a few days a month.

We actually have a few absolutely excellent keepers in the system and I wonder where they learnt, seemingly without any great specialist WK coaching? It’s a shame none of them are very good at batting though.

Shawn Handirisi at Eagles is spectacular behind the stumps, but doesn’t get the runs. Mayavo at Rhinos is good too.

Man I wish Reggie was 5 or 6 years younger!!!

I didn't know he was still around. He was damned good as a youngster and not too bad with the bat, clearly he's let that slip. He was a small guy and absolutely electric.

I'm pretty sure we once fielded an U19 side with Shaun Handirisi and Luke Jongwe opening the batting together  :o

Wes will never be a test player of any substance, his technique is far too loose.
Still very early days in his career, but it looks like Wes is hitting the proverbial wall after a solid start to his career. He is going to have to adapt his game a bit. My initial assessment of him was that his strengths are that he's a busy cricketer, always looking to score runs and keep that scoreboard ticking. You will never see him be 5 off 20 balls in ODIs (not that this is bad, plenty of class batters start slow and end up with a run a ball 100) or being unable to score runs for a prolonged period of time. But his weakness is that he relies too much on aerial shots to get his runs. If he can fix that second issue, he can be as good as Taylor-Williams-Ervine-Raza.

Wessly top scored for the Eagles with 72 in the first innings of the ongoing match. While stats are not everything, Zim cricket fans have watched many batsmen with polished techniques dissapoint us time and again. I for one would prefer a batsman with arrogance and self belief although technically deficient than the usual

I don't think Wessley's technique is poor...its more his shot selection thats an issue. That being said, its still very early in his career. Mushfiqur Rahim averaged under 20 after his first 50 games in each format and now averages high 30s. So there is plenty of time for youngsters to up their stats.

Could Wes get in purely due to his bowling and play as an all rounder?
