2023 World Cup Qualifier discussion
Re: 2023 World Cup Qualifier discussion
We probably should prepare for those likelihoods but at least we can't blame the selectors.

True. I just always find it remarkable how many injuries and other weird commitments seem to crop up in our playing group given how rarely we play. Remember the few years we had where there was always team weddings during the two months we had cricket scheduled?

Remember the Indian coach who had players frustrated that they ended up faking injuries..eugene wrote: ↑Sun Jun 04, 2023 2:23 amSean Williams will no doubt miss a game or two due to a sore throat and Craig Ervine will inevitably have a hamstring issue keeping him out of a game.Jemisi wrote: ↑Sat Jun 03, 2023 10:30 pmYeah, a couple of calls could have been different but the squad would still be fine. They seem to have lost the habit of leaving out one of the better players.CrimsonAvenger wrote: ↑Sat Jun 03, 2023 1:54 am
Yeah, we haven't resurrected a Chibhabha or a Chigumbura out of the blue or haven't picked a Maruma for the 782nd time. Nyauchi over Evans or Mavuta over Jongwe were the closest in consideration I would think, but probably none of those 4 would get into the strongest playing XI at the moment, so one can understand them picking slightly more accomplished batters among them there.

The squad is pretty much as I expected, but I am surprised Mavuta has been left out. I really don’t get the need for 2 spare batsman, to me it says that they’re not confident in the other 8 guys they have.
I think it’s a mistake to leave out a front line leggie, sure he can struggle with consistency at times, but now we’re left without an ace card up our sleeve.
I just can’t see how Marumani will make an impact at this tournament if he hasn’t done so, so far at this level.

Don't need 2 spinners in the squad , Wellington is first choice in 50 over cricket. There are enough spin options in the team anyway.jaybro wrote: ↑Mon Jun 05, 2023 7:56 amThe squad is pretty much as I expected, but I am surprised Mavuta has been left out. So you need 9 batsman but not two spinners?

I agree with Jay that Mavuta should have been in.
Probably would have had him instead of Jongwe though.
