I often wonder what is said in the change room after, when a team of over age men get a smackdown from a bunch of 18 year olds.

Apparently numerous of the Afghan squad cricinfo profiles listed their ages as early-mid twenties this time last year but now the same players are all suddenly listing ages as being 17/18

There are screenshots even
Gotta find the screenshots
Here’s one of the examples I’ve been sent

Bizarre that they get away with it.

Sometimes cricinfo does get the profiles wrong and instead of creating a profile for a new player it assigns him an existing profile of another player called Bashir Ahmad.

They get away with it because the ICC, like with many things, assigns responsibility for checking potential age fudging with the boards. As long as their passports say they are born after the cut off date the ICC does not care. In Afghanistan where record keeping is poor to non-existent, age fudging is obviously very easy and even many of the players themselves do not know when their birthday is or how old they actually are.

Even in Bangladesh, which is a first world country compared to Afghanistan, my father - who has a PhD - doesn’t know his actual birthday. He was born “sometime in August” according to him, but doesn’t know the exact date.
