Watched the highlights.

Not sure why some members are still suggesting campbell doesn't have what it takes. There's a lot of flair there and he clearly hits the ball very hard.

Bennett is a player. Really has impressed me. I don't think T20 is his natural game but he's shown an ability to adapt to this format.

Burl needs to pull his finger out now that Campbell has arrived.

... And anyone thinking modern T20 cricket needs anchors like Gumbie (T20 ffs!!) is probably living in 1970s.

Even if someone is an 'anchor', that player also keeps taking singles and twos, and keeps the scoreboard ticking. You won't see him 4 (19) in the powerplay, that was probably acceptable in 1970s , well before my birth.
The 1970s were great bro, could play 11 murungus with no questions asked.

In lots of ways Campbell has been made to wait for his chance in national side but for other nations this is the norm.

That's probably why years of domestic cricket and sporadic matches against touring sides has moulded him into a great player. Sure marumani and madhevere might have had a free pass from under19 level up to nationals but selectors such as mutendera did them dirty by doing this and catapulting them into limelight too early.

Campbell and Bennett need to play every single match from here on in regardless of a loss of form which will happen.

I see Jono brother Mathew smashed a 120 in a regional side match recently. He is one for future and a good bowler too.

Imagine Brian's twin brother getting back into game and the welch brothers and Campbell brothers playing in unison. Would be too much for some but I'm sure they would excel. Bit early for junior welch and junior Campbell but you never know in future.

Where were you when Craig ervine scored 5 off 19 balls against namibia recently 🤣🤣.
I agree if Gumbie does that again he should be dropped but jeez it's his second match and his scoring rate was more than acceptable in first match. Give the kid a chance

Never in favor of Ervine playing T20s either but still he is better than Gumbie. The problem is not with the player here, I don't dislike Gumbie by any means, the problem is the approach and the fact that Zimbabwe think tank actually things that an anchor is needed in this day and age, and that too 17 (30) kind of an anchor. That's ridiculous.

Records have been broken in IPL this year with 250 getting breached multiple times, there are 20 teams playing the T20 WC this year, the likes of Nepal, PNG and Uganda are announcing their squads while Zimbabwe are stuck in playing a 20 run powerplay with no WC in sight.

Don't get me wrong, but Zimbabwe are falling behind at quite a rapid pace in international cricket. It is a very grim picture atm.

Totally bro in 2024 striking at 120 is the bare minimum for an anchor. Big guns should striking at 200+

The anchor shouldn’t be opening but they are the only ones with a solid enough technique to survive quality opening spells. Maybe that’s where the problem is. The person who actually played a perfect anchor role yesterday was Bennett. He accelerated easily at the end plus we have seen he can utilize the power play as well. Multiple people say this isn’t even his strongest format so if that’s the case then he should be the anchor. Madande at least has one good option for boundaries and he can rotate the strike so he can be the keeper in this format.

T20 cricket is just as much of a specialist format as test cricket but the problem we have is that all our big hitters have a poor defensive technique and they won’t survive quality opening bowling spells. This is why they keep going back to Craig and are now testing Gumbie. Marumani didn’t survive, Gumbie had to throw his wicket away because he wasn’t scoring quick enough. Big difference.

It’s actually a tough position to be in as selectors because if we look back historically. They gave Zhuwao 7 games, Maruma 13 games. That’s 20 T20i games in over a decade. Marumani has played 25 and shown nothing really. Other guys like Mutumbami got 29 T20s over a decade. K-long has played 15 matches his whole T20i career. If you look at that track record you will realize that Marumani has gotten more than enough chances. Guys who have similar mental or technical issues were never given that much time.
