That was a horror show. Really sets us back after some promise from the games in Bangladesh and England.
The mental demons are well and truly set in now. Need some fresh faces and ideas.
I like the team that was posted before and I would make Campbell the permanent captain. Let Ervine concentrate on batting and he and the other seniors can support Campbell while they're still around.

Welch scoring a half century has probably saved him for another test series. If he gets dropped then it's a clear example of favouritism. Some really really poor batting in this game.

You can't make a guy captain that has done nothing personally. He captained on his debut simply because the choices were Ngarava, Welch and himself and they wont let Welch captain the drinking team in case he wins.Mr Twig wrote: ↑Tue Jul 08, 2025 2:07 pmThat was a horror show. He captained one game against SA emerging and pulled a surprise win. Mountaineers won every game he captained bar 1. Wimbledon won every game he captained. He has a serious captaincy record.
Nit suggesting he's our new captain

What's the problem with Welch and ZCB? I don't understand why they removed him from the captaincy after Mangongo's exit, especially when the Mountaineers were winning matches under his leadership. Before committing to ZC, he played in the NPL, so he basically followed ZC rules. It seems like you only need the smallest reason to end up in their bad books but what Welch done to them??

If i am not mistaken he was involved in a fight of some sorts at HSC and has been kinda frowned upon ever since!Marshmallow wrote: ↑Tue Jul 08, 2025 2:42 pmWhat's the problem with Welch and ZCB? ZC have their favourites, we never know the ins and outs of every player and why, but there’s always favouritism.
E.g. they gave Bennett every single opportunity at every single level, but not Melch. They were in the same u19 batch and some would say the latter had even more obvious potential than Bennett…..but for some reason ZC liked one and not the other.
They seem to have an issue with the Welch family in general.
They clearly dislike Evans.
They clearly dislike some black players too and favour some others. I can reel off a whole list of talented or at least decent black guys over the years who they have just outright rejected and never given an opportunity to for whatever reason.
If you try and make sense of ZC’s decisions yoi are just wasting your own time. There is no logic to any of it, so don’t try and find it

To an extent. Look at Frank etc. Definitely an element to it.
Although there are black guys they hate too.

Welch actually has the character for it. He wasn't backing down today either. The South Africans have been on his case actually. Cosi Yusuf and Senokwane were on that emerging tour whenGoogly wrote: ↑Tue Jul 08, 2025 2:15 pmYou can't make a guy captain that has done nothing personally. Nit suggesting he's our new captainbut he should at least be in charge of a franchise side.
words were exchanged, maybe they tipped off the other guys.
Bottom line is I think we need an aggressive captain. Sick and tired of our captain just going through the motions
Re: Zimbabwe vs South Africa | 2nd Test | 6-10 July | Bulawayo
Wes is averaging 17, Kaitano 21, Welch 23, Tsiga 9. They have all played around the same number of matches. Bennett averages almost 40, Curran 29, Prince 25.
Tsiga is the obvious first drop. He has really disappointed. I think Raza will replace Wes. Curran and Bennett will hopefully be back and they will probably pick Prince as the back up. So I suspect that Kaitano will get axed. Welch I think has done just enough to keep his place. 3 half centuries now.
So I see Curran, Bennett and Raza coming in with Prince and Wes as the back up batsmen. If Campbell outperforms Wes in the T20s then he might actually replace Wes. I think his position is in real jeopardy. I also see Newman playing.
