Post by tawac »

Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) notes with regret that Sean Williams has made himself unavailable for national selection, most recently withdrawing on the eve of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier 2025 in Harare amid potential anti-doping testing. During an internal investigation to understand the reasons for his unavailability, Williams disclosed that he has been struggling with drug addiction and has voluntarily entered rehabilitation. ZC expects all contracted players to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, discipline and compliance with team protocols and anti-doping regulations. A review of Williams’ record indicates a history of disciplinary issues and repeated unavailability, which has impacted team preparations and performance. While ZC commends him for seeking rehabilitation, withdrawal from team commitments under circumstances involving potential testing raises serious concerns regarding professional and ethical standards. After careful consideration, ZC has concluded that Williams will no longer be considered for national selection. Consequently, it is not feasible to continue his national contract beyond its expiry on 31 December 2025. Notwithstanding this, ZC sincerely acknowledges and appreciates his immense contribution to Zimbabwean cricket over the past two decades. Williams has played a pivotal role in some of the most significant moments in our recent history, leaving a lasting legacy both on and off the field. ZC wishes him strength in his recovery and every success in his future endeavours.
CHRISTOPHER MPOFU: 'The problem was fear of failure. I used to think that when I played, if I didn't do well in one game, I would lose my place for the next one but now I've let go of that'

What a blow!

:o

Zimbabwe had just experienced Ballance revolving door; it is just beginning to enjoy the return of Taylor victim of ICC insane anticorruption policy; now Williams ruled out.

It's really a pity.
Thanks to him for all he has done to the national team in the past two decades

Fixing is fixing, should be a life ban....

Hu, hu ....

Mr. Braveheart, there are two options:

1) match fixing organizations are a bunch of petty jokers
2) match fixing organizations are powerful and structured mafia organizations

Case 1) : match fixing is just a backyard pastime and rightly ICC would have little to worry about

Case 2) : match fixing is a damned thing involving organized crime. Hundreds of millions of dollars involved and (naivity apart) those who manage it are multinationals fully packed with goons, cuthroat and professional killers.

Let's go on with Case 2.

Organized crime approaches a player and threatens not only him but his siblings also.
Such criminals can threat and indeed "apply" their threats. It's not a joke there are truly lives at stake!

But let's assume that the approached player is a braveheart boyscout: ICC provides to be given an immediate disclosure of the threat.

Boyscout goes to ICC and just ask for a very candid and obvious question: "dear ICC I have something very heavy to report. Can we first discuss on how is structured your witness protection program?"

ICC: "witness protection program? In our premises is indeed something unheard of. We would be so goofy that we can't even know how to manage it.... You just have to report, in detail, the mafia scheme that has targeted you and then it's up to you to pray for your life (and the one of your siblings)"

Boyscout: "so basically you are suggesting to put my life and the one of my family at very high risk because you stated a policy which goes far beyond your capacity to enforce it in the consquences that your policy leads to?"

ICC: "Exactly! Fixing is fixing, we are even too mild: there should be life ban for it!"

Boyscout thought: I understand now what these insane naives truly mean for a....LIFE BAN! They play with other people lives without taking any responsibility, without even having a coscience on how their policy may hit other people lives.
Question is: are they simply naive or totally insane?
