He had so much hype as well. Turned out he was a bog standard off spinner and average batter. Bennett is probably a better spinner

1. Chari
2. Kumanakanwe (kind of ok, but mostly crap)
3. Masvaure (too fat)
4. Tarisai Musakanda (jailed, drugs, etc) had a lot of potential.
5. Richmond Mutambani (really sucked)
6.Chamu
7. Akram
8. Mashingwe (actually thought he had some talent)
9. Nyumbu
10. Ainsley Ndluvo
11. Garwe (sucked)
Gone with a spin heavy line up.
I actually liked Cephas, that dude could crush a ball.
Also Waller was a perpetual disappointment, however, he did have a few bright spots, that 99 and from memory a Sri Lanka and Bangladesh tour where he killed it so he narrowly misses out.

Those names really do highlight how shit some of the players have been for us. I think Piet Rinke and Greg Strydom should be added somewhere. They were particularly poor cricketers and did very little when given the opportunity.

Re: ZCF Hapless XI
There's some very good memories amongst certain members. I'd have forgotten all about Kamungozi and Tshuma
Re: ZCF Hapless XI
C'mon china, Wellington Masakadza shouldn't be in this conversation. Same goes for Mupariwa, he was 2nd fastest to 50 ODI wickets behind Streaky if I'm not mistaken.Zayn_63 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 22, 2026 9:45 am1-Brian Chari
2-Cephas Zhuwao
3-Richmond Mutumbami(WK)
4-Timycen Maruma
5-Greg Lamb
6-Keegan Meth
7-Tawanda Mupariwa
8-Wellington Masakadza(C)
9-Carl Mumba
10-Tafadzwa Kamungozi
11-Liam Roche
Tinotenda Mutombodzi is another notable performer who shouldve been in my hapless XI but I prefer all rounders like Greg & Keegan.
It was a battle between Natsai Mushangwe & Kamungozi for the leg spinner spot but I remember how Gayle smashed Kamungozi in the 2015 world cup enroute his 200
Here's mine:
1. Brian Chari
2. Cephas Zhuwao
3. Brian Mudzinganyama
4. Timycen Maruma (c)
5. Friday Kasteni
6. Ryan Murray (wk)
7. Greg Lamb
8. Keegan Meth
9 Tafadzwa Kamungozi
10. Ian Nicolson
11. Liam Roche
- Nicolson had a bit of pace though. Shame he didn't have the accuracy to go with it.
EDIT: I had included PJ Moor initially, but replaced him with Friday Kasteni. Moor shouldn't be in this convo tbh.

Re: ZCF Hapless XI
Rinke and Strydom did not play after 2006 so did not include them

Re: ZCF Hapless XI
Mupariwa is still the fastest to 50 ODI wickets. No2 is Eddo Brandes but the point is how Mupariwa went from becoming the fastest Zimbabwe bowler to 50 odi wickets to being dropped from the side without playing 50 odi matches? He lost pace but then again, was it so much that they dropped him completely and he could never make a genuine comeback? Mupariwas comeback in 2015 wc was pretty poor and he was dropped again soon. His story is somewhat similar to the mystery spinner Ajantha Mendis who still holds the record to fastest 50 odi wickets overall.zimbot wrote: ↑Sun Feb 22, 2026 12:38 pmC'mon china, Wellington Masakadza shouldn't be in this conversation. As far as wellington goes, he is yet to take 50 t20i wickets and has played more than 75 matches.. Cremer is the main spinner having played under 35 t20i but does it mean Wellington only needs to contain runs? Once upon a time , Ray Price was Zimbabwes best left arm spinner..no2 odi bowler in the world.. even williams has better economy rate than Wellington. You are right about Mupariwa I think but Wellington... I dont know.. difficult to understand what he offers in the t20i playing XI.

Re: ZCF Hapless XI
Mupariwa struggled to get up to 70mph. A lot of his wickets were due to a remarkable lack of pace and he didn't really swing it either. Amazing thsy he holds that record but you need only look at the sides he played against
