English domestic cricket is also overrated. How often have we heard of exiled Zimbabwean cricketers playing in England who will simply walk back into the Zimbabwean team and average 60 in the Logan Cup. It has yet to happen.zimfan1 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 27, 2026 7:11 pmApart from one decent patch last franchise season Nick Welch has averaged around 20 in 3/4 seasons in both OD and FC cricket.
Lots of excuses are being made for him but the idea that he would score regular runs in international cricket is laughable. He has never done this in the UK or in a very weak first class comp in Zimbabwe.
He clearly has ability but I have seen nothing to suggest that he could have half the career that Williams, Taylor, Raza or even Ervine have had.

The current test opener and no. 3 (Curran and Welch), are County Cricket rejects. They only returned to Zim after losing their jobs in England.

I used to have those same thoughts about county cricket until Durham came and spanked everyone. Probably a sign that the guys who do lose their county contracts are about the same level as our better guys here. Still not a good look.

Kaia doing well again.

Yeah, good point. That T20 comp was embarrassing the way Durham (and an understrength Durham!) absolutely bossed it!
