Canada Visit Cancelled

Post by maehara »

Canada's proposed tour of Zimbabwe, which was part of their preparations for the ICC World Cup Qualifiers, has been scrapped after Cricket Canada backtracked on its request for a series of matches.

Zimbabwe Cricket was approached in early February and agreed to host a series of matches in late March to help the Canadians acclimatise. It was intended to play at least four ODIs against a Zimbabwe A side.

However, at a board meeting on February 21, Cricket Canada decided to cancel the trip, telling ZC that "there were some concerns about Canada being able to field a competitive side in Zimbabwe as well as taking into account the Canadian government's health advisory for Zimbabwe at this time."

Hardly surprising, I think the general feeling around here for the last few days was that it wasn't going ahead.
well ive emailed cri info and they replied saying as far as they know the tour is still happening and it will be against an A side
Alarm bells were ringing at this point, when Cricinfo say something like "the tour is still happening" you can almost treat that as confirmation that it isn't.

We are back to familiar territory now. Tournaments getting cancelled, players leaving, bizarre reasons being given for players not turning up, well, we have come a long way from the red letter day of 25th February 2009 ;)

For lack of a good segue, the first brmtaylor.com interview of 2009 has been posted: brmtaylor.com exclusive: Qhubekani Nkala interview (former ZC operations manager and all-rounder for Alex Sports Club)

oh well we still have lots of cricket less this year

march - Nambia away
India away
April - Logan cup
June - India home
August - Bangladesh Home
September - sri lanka away
November - Bangladesh away

plus if we could squeeze in a couple of series against kenya and maybe nambia then it will be the fullest schedule we have had for some time

Politics again, nothing but politics, very frustrating and annoying indeed.

I wonder if Chingoka and his boys are negotiating cancellation penalties ...........

Well said

I think the main problem is that the scheduled tour is getting cancelled.ZC should have a look at this, why it's occuring. It's not good for the prospective of cricket.Zimbabwe has to play a decent amount of international cricket to build the momentum and keep it going. There is more series scheduled for Zimbabwe this year than the previous years. But I think it's lower than the other countries if we compare,2/3 international series short I suspect.
