Zimbabwe Knocks Out Tigers in Style

Post by bullseye28 »

As expected the inevitable as happened. It was bound to happen. But it was sooner than expected.

A team which has improved from 211 to 161 in a matter of one One Dayer is bound to get better. Two superlative performances one from Masakadza, and the other from Elton Chigumbura and a cool and steady one from Brendon Taylor took the game away from Bangladesh.

Congratulations to Zinbabwe Team! You deserved to win!
Congratulations to Masakadza, Chigumbura , Taylor for displaying awesome batting!

Last but not the least:
Congratulations to Robin for proving that he has good batting ability and skills!

Its is true that Bangladesh fielded their third string pace duo ( No Mashrfae, Shahadat, Rubel or Nazmul). Robin is essentially a back up bowler and has not played in any of the ongoing one dayers. It was expected that he would be rusty and take time to find his rhythm. No wonder despite taking two early wickets he went for 84 runs from 9 overs and capturing 2 wickets which I am sure most readers will agree is unacceptable in any form of cricket.

Realistically everything went right for Zimbabwe.

Team composition changes, Performance of replacements, Batting Order Reshufle resulted in remarkable turn around of results for Zimbabwe team.

Team composition changes

Replacements of Chibhaaba, Williams, Rainsford,
by Sibanda, Waller, T Mupariwa proved effective as far as the last mentioned one is concerned

Performance of replacements.

Compare

Second One dayer.

Rainsford : 10 overs no maiden 66 runs and no wicket.

Third One dayer.

Mupariwa: 7.2 overs no maiden 32 runs and 3 wickets.

Inclusion of Mupariwa has made a huge difference . He also took the key wickets of Tamim and Ashraful
and in the process broke the backbone of Bangladesh batting . Bangladesh never recovered from this early dismissals of their key Batsmen .

Batting order reshuffle.

Changing the batting order of Masakadza, Chigumbura in this one dayer changed the entire complexion of their batting

Compare:

Masakadza

Second One dayer
Batting Postion 2 (Opening)

Runs: 13; Balls 17: Fours : 1: Sixes: 0; Strike Rate: 76.47.

Third One Dayer
Batting Position 3

Runs: 192; Balls 92: Fours : 4: Sixes: 2; Strike Rate: 91.07.

Chigumbura

Second One dayer
Batting Position 9

Runs: 31; Balls 20: Fours : 0 Sixes: 3; Strike Rate: 155.00.

Third One Dayer
Batting Position 6

Runs: 61*: Balls 33: Fours : 3: Sixes: 5; Strike Rate: 184.84.

Zimbabwean with new look team composition looked Sharper, Smarter, Solid and Competitive.

The bowling department that looked average and mediocre suddenly looked incisive and penetrative with inclusion of Mupariwa . Figures of three wickets from 7.2 overs for 32 runs says it all. Most important he delivered when it mattered most

The only Silver lining of he third One Dayer as far as Bangladesh is concerned was Robin's ability and skills as a batsman.- 59 runs in 43 balls with 2 fours and 3 sixes at Strike rate of 137.20 by a tailender batting at # 9 is commendable in any form of cricket.

It will be a close encounter for the remainder Matches. Bangladesh should just forget what has happened in the last One Dayer . Take a fresh guard and go for the kill .

May the best team win!

Well done ! Good analysis indeed.

Bangladesh didn't bowl well, most of them were very expensive. They dropped 2 catches one by Mushfiqur and another by Raqibul, they were vital. Dropping Zunaed was a huge mistake. Bowling Mehrab Jnr for 10 overs was a mistake as he isn't a wicket taker at least for me. Naeem Islam should be given to bowl, he hasn't bowled at all in the 3rd ODI and Mahmudullah just bowled 2 overs.

These are the things Bangladesh should work on.

For Zimbabwe, many many congratulation for the victory of 3rd ODI. But they should go with five genuine bowlers. Their part-timers are proven to be very costly.

Anywanys, hoping for a exciting contest in the 4th ODI.
