Questions for Butcher

Post by ZIMFAN »

Dear Lads,

Don't know if you have heard of Guerilla Cricket. It is the latest incarnation of Test Match Sofa and runs alternative commentary on England cricket matches. Anyway, a mate of mine commentates on it and tomorrow they're having Alan Butcher on at 10am UK time to talk about his book. I've told my mate I would email him some questions tomorrow morning. So far I am thinking of...

"How would you equate the standard of Zim to other sides?"
"Is it frustrating for you that Zim seem to have gone backwards since your time there?"
"KJ and BT have obviously done well in country cricket but who was the most naturally talented player you dealt with in your time there?"
"How much of a negative influence did ZC politics play in your time there and were you ever forced to pick players because of their colour?"
"Ray Price is my hero. How big of a legend is he?"

If you have any to add, please let me know and I can send them to my friend. No guarantees they get asked but we can but hope.

I think you'll be able to tweet in questions too. It is available to listen all over the world so whether you are in Zim, Aus or India you should be able to get something in and/or hear it.

What is his opinion on Prosper Utseya's allegations against AC?

I'd like to ask him how much interference there was selecting the teams, I'm sure I heard somewhere that Alan wanted Ed Rainsford and Terry Duffin on a tour ( to NZ I think ) but was given Mutizwa and Shingi instead ??

Also heard Rainsford was told no matter how he performed domestically his career playing for Zimbabwe was done ??

Yeah, although he might find it difficult to comment on specific cases like that, even I would want to know how much of a say he had in team selection matters in general. Also, who were his top 3 "go to guys" in the team that he counted on.

What does he think of the up and coming talent in the domestic scene and club cricket if was exposed to those during his time?

Also, it would be great if someone could post the gist if the interview here once it is done. Not sure quite a lot of people would be able to catch it live.

Long interview with Alan Butcher. Talks about his time in Zim and then his playing career towards the end of it. Watch out for the musical interlude at around 25mins!
