Match Thread Eagles v Mountaineers (Logan Cup)
Re: Match Thread Eagles v Mountaineers (Logan Cup)
Chasing 95 to win how do you crumble to 45/7. Typical of Zimbabwean cricket. What were these guys doing I wonder??? Trying to lose a game that everyone thought was a draw. Better still if these guys were supposed to score 96 runs from 12 overs thats at a run rate of just under 8 an over (Im hoping there is an option of light in this form of game). This was a pretty achievable score. I think this would explain the three run outs. What these guys should have been trying to do is clear the boundary. Correct me if Im wrong but HSC is not really known for crumbling. I would say Mountaineers lost a good opportunity for a win.

I think the Eagles did put a great deal of pressaure over the Mountaineers by bowling tight and the pitch might favour the bowlers in extensive extent as it was a last day pitch. I can recall the low scoring matches at HSC between SL vs Zim early this year.

There are 3 run out's in Mountaineers 2nd innings by Forster Mutizwa. I think, he is a very good, quick wicket keeper.

One of the worrying things I noticed from the scorecard is that Maruma has bowled only 3 overs from 2 innings. Is he being considered only as a batsman, or has he got some injury? Mind you, he has done well with the bat, though...

I noticed that last season he bowled only 35 overs(4 wickets) in the whole Logan Cup but in the ICC game against Afganistan he bowled 48 overs ( 36 in the first innings). Last year surprised me as he had averaged almost 5 wickets per game previously. Isn't he rated any more?CrimsonAvenger wrote:One of the worrying things I noticed from the scorecard is that Maruma has bowled only 3 overs from 2 innings. At the resik of seeming critical in these positive times it is as failure of the franchise system to have Maurma and Utseys at the same region. Maruma would have been better off at the Eagles or the Rhino's neither of whom have a front line off-spinner. Zimbabwe's best 2 off-spinners are at the same region.

No way of avoiding that unless you go back to ZC allocating players to sides. If you're going to allow the franchises full autonomy - which is what ZC says they have - then these things will happen - up to Mountaineers now to make best use of them both...Robin wrote:At the resik of seeming critical in these positive times it is as failure of the franchise system to have Maurma and Utseys at the same region. As far as the role of Maruma for Mountaineers is concerned, I think the franchise wants to use him as an allrounder. I noticed that Mountaineers went with 3 spinners. Utseya and there was also a legbreak bowler called Natsai Mushangwe. They both bowled more than Maruma who I suspect turned to be mainly a batting allrounder for this match.

Agreed, it just seems to be under-utilising a bowler who took 85 first class wickets over the last 2 seasons.
