[Discussion]: Carl Mumba - A Good Find

Post by Detective RDS »

Carl Mumba has been a very pretty good find.

8 wickets in 2 tests @ 37 in debut test series is a good start for this 21 years young pacer.

His rise & the way he gradually came through the ranks is good. He was identified first, made the emerging XI, later A side, performed & came national side honors. He has reasons to be happy.

What lies ahead for him ? What he should do to improve ? How he should be handled ? Guess an ODI side call up is also round the corner for him.

Please discuss.

Also encouraging because he came through domestic cricket, and not through the well trodden path of one of the major schools or the Harare scene.

Good for him.

7 wickets @ 37 is an excellent start on FLAT, unhelpful surfaces.

Has height, and a bit of pace as well. His action many not be the best though, but he has plenty to work with.

Top prospect. Best since Jarvis and he may be better than KJ in the end.

Just a small correction. 8 wickets in the series for Mumba. Agree fully with everything in the initial post. Hope Streak and Ntini develops him to realize his potential even better in the coming days.

He has done well and with some decent coaching can get quicker, his approach to the wicket can be more explosive than it currently is without altering too much of his action or anything.

Mumba is exactly the kind of guy we need in team. Panyangara and Chatara are lazy entitled and useless. Mumba is young and hungry and stays out of KFC. Hopefully Streak won't stand in the way of young black bowlers like he did when he was a player.

Do you mean that Streak was standing in the way of young black bowlers because he was the one and only world class bowler that Zim had and a damn good batsman?

What a strange team selection idea that you would select your best player

definitely a good find.. and u guys are right that its a good thing he went through the system as it kind of gives us a little bit of faith in our system and that the likes of Nyauchi Musakanda and Burl might be good enough as well. the likes of Bowie and Diplock who people constantly talk about here should take heart from this and give it a full go on the domestic scene.

I hope Nyauchi gets his chance soon although the ODI setup will probably have a completely different setup with the likes of Madziva Panyangara Wellington Chatara and Chamu coming into the team.

You misunderstand, as usual. Streak actively sought to suppress black talent when he was a player, particularly as captain. He always favoured his fellow whites and when a black bowler did make the team he would bowl them as little as possible and marginalize them.
