the best fastest bowler in zimbabwe history
Re: the best fastest bowler in zimbabwe history
I know that in one of his games he bowled a 14 ball over and if the Capt perceived him to have been a Quota player then by not bowling him I guess was making his feelings clear to the selectors. This is just supposition on my part. DM had tremendous potential and may have had some justification for feeling hard done by.

I found this excellent article on him. I'm going back to see who wrote it.

It was as I thought, there really was controversy surrounding his selection for that test.

Re: the best fastest bowler in zimbabwe history
Ok none other than John Ward. He really writes well and has a handle on things and understands cricket. This story really highlights the animosity between black and white in those days. The story says he was replacing Craig Wishart, but was Craig a bowler? I'm confused by that.
When there's pressure to field black players for political expediency it's tough on everybody. Firstly there's an air of expectancy and entitlement (I like using that word in this context!) by black guys who are thereabouts and then there's huge resentment from the players having to stand down, and of course their team mates. It's just a no win situation. I think if those guys involved in that situation were honest they would admit that those hostilities simmer to this day. I know DM is known for being somewhat intolerant, which is a balancing act for him as he's involved with white kids. He handles it fairly well mostly.

Re: the best fastest bowler in zimbabwe history
The white guys in those days really were not prepared to part ranks to allow an up and coming black cricketer into their sides. Although it was narrow minded it's hard to blame them, except with the benefit of hindsight. I'd like to know Andy Flower's exact motive for leaving OG's and moving to Takashinga. That was a bold and controversial move at the time. I shall dig.

Ok another good article, this time by Tristan Holme.
He skirted around what prompted Flower to join Takashinga and why he left so prematurely. That would be interesting to know. Amazing to think that there were 4 leagues back then, it's no wonder our cricket was so strong. Intolerant whites and blacks have a lot to answer for.

Check out this article, I guess to be a sports writer for the Guardian you need to be fairly slick.

Re: the best fastest bowler in zimbabwe history
If you read that article about Takashinga the one glaring sentence is "Takashinga's meteoric rise over 11 years." That statement says a lot. That's how long it takes to create a club, establish traditions, create history etc. So successful was ZC in dismantling the old institutions for what they said was to level the playing field, but had a huge dose of spite in it, that they have been the masters of their own demise. So narrow minded were they that they were happy with Takashinga being the only club, much like a one party state, now I wonder where they learnt this from?
It's in such poor shape now, and run by an out of touch racist dictator, that it will never recover. I'm still talking about Takas, by the way. No one really wants to play there anymore unless they have aspirations of higher office.
I still believe that these clubs with no grounds should be banned. That mentality of have a few drinks and form a club because you may not get picked at another actual club is a big part of the problem.

Yes two leagues in the country.eugene wrote:4 leagues in club cricket? We barely have 4 clubs these days.
1x 4 team Como in Bulawayo and 1x 8 team Comp in Harare.
Yet there are people here who write in a serious manner that the first class scene needs more teams.
