Could come back an even better 23 year old. Similar to Masakadza when he was away for 3 years in Varsity.

Yeah If Myers wants to be a cricketer he is in a setup which despite the general sentiment here, gets a decent amount of matches so he should definitely stick around for another year.

Amazing, these moments make it worthwhile. Stick with it whilst we have the bad times then you get these treasured moments with family.secretzimbo wrote: ↑Sun Sep 19, 2021 5:41 pmIt really was sensational. Was jumping up and down with my 7-year old daughter who up until now has shown literally zero interest in cricket! Brilliant.

Re: Milton Shumba
I still don't know what's better for a 19 year to develop. If you have a system where the kids are playing regularly is it not better to play for Zim than try a County gig where you are on the fringes for years.
For example Nick Welch has played 16 official matches his whole career. Some of them were even played in Zim. County second team isn't an official match. He will be 24 in February.
Wesley has played 16 T20 internationals this year alone. He is 21. Who has learnt more over the last year. Welch or Wes? I think times might have changed. There is a good chance that Wes could have played 100 international matches by the time he is 24. He has already played 33. Are you guys telling me a start stop county career is worth more than 100 international games? I'm not so sure. Even from a financial perspective. That's a lot of matche fee money there, even if its usually late
Re: Milton Shumba
Nick has played over 300 games in the last 5 years, far better for his development than playing a few domestic games and 15 internationals a year.TapsC2 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 19, 2021 7:52 pmI still don't know what's better for a 19 year to develop. Re: Milton Shumba
It's not only 15 internationals a year any more though/currently. It's probably on par for the select few like Wes that get regular Zim games. I would argue Zim players are also getting more variety of conditions/opposition than county.zimfan1 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 19, 2021 8:19 pmNick has played over 300 games in the last 5 years, far better for his development than playing a few domestic games and 15 internationals a year.TapsC2 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 19, 2021 7:52 pmI still don't know what's better for a 19 year to develop. He has played 5 first class matches, the rest are for 2nd team, which doesn't count as as first classzimfan1 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 19, 2021 8:19 pmNick has played over 300 games in the last 5 years, far better for his development than playing a few domestic games and 15 internationals a year.TapsC2 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 19, 2021 7:52 pmI still don't know what's better for a 19 year to develop. Re: Milton Shumba
Dave Houghton along with Grant Flower as batting coach/consultant will get the best out of these youngsters
Re: Milton Shumba
Is Shumba's best position as an opener ala Chris Gayle, cashing in on the fielding teams powerplay?? Or is he a finisher ala. Dhoni, whooping tire bowlers and a scuffed, dilll ball to the stands??. We've rarely seen a Zimbabwean big-hitter with the fundamentals i.e. playing each ball on its merits.
Re: Milton Shumba
Probably the position he is now. 5 or 4. He probably hasn't faced real fast pace in his career yet. So I'd be nervous about that even though he did look good against the Scotland pacers.Tinah09 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 20, 2021 2:25 amIs Shumba's best position as an opener ala Chris Gayle, cashing in on the fielding teams powerplay?? A good thing with Wes and shumba together is that they run really fast together. If you have a slower older guy with them they wouldn't be able to get the twos.
