Makoni announces Zim Afro T10
Re: Makoni announces Zim Afro T10
Whilst it would be good to finally get a decent level comp in Zim, there are so many red flags here.
1. They keep marketing this league as part of the Abu Dhabi T10, and I get that it is the same franchise, but that clearly points toward using Zim for other plans.
2. That launch was shocking. So much was done and not enough info was given. So many Bollywood dances. It's almost as if Zim has nothing to do with this league.
3. I get that it is a Afro league, but why Zim if we only get two sides. What is the benefit of having two sides from SA when they have their own T20 going on. Are these sides going to be forced to have local players, and if so, that would mean a lot of Zim players miss out. How can ZC allow such a thing. If the whole thing is played in Zim, how do you build supporter bases for the other franchises. Do they split the hosting rights, and if they do, it's no longer a Zim league.
4. Timing of this league. It was pointed out that this league is for August. MLC should be done by then. However, the Lanka Premier League and The Hundred start and they will surely get the majority of the bigger name players.
5. The logo. Absolute shite again. Has anyone in Zim heard of Adobe or even Canva. Why is it always these knock off MS paint jobs.
6. What is the benefit to Zim cricket? how will it grow our game and our talent? How is any of this beneficial, or expected to attract big name players.
I highly doubt we will get any players of note. I can see this being a list of has beens and journeymen taking up spots and then eventually dying out after some sort of scandal hits the comp. There was more talk about that Zim Cyber City and the investment and building of it, and I don't know how this ties in to ZC. Really hope ZC is not being used as a means to funnel money for this Mulk's dude side projects.
More than happy to be proven wrong.

I'm hearing its happening in May. That makes a lot more sense because all the guys not in the IPL will be available. Quality wise I think 6 Zim teams would be too many. 2 might just be enough. Honestly my biggest concern is source of funds
Do we even have 20 guys who can clear the ropes

Don’t worry Taps, if it’s like the Abu Dhabi league there will only be 1 or 2 Zim players per XI anyway…..

That's better I suppose. None of the IPL players would be expected to take part in a Zim league anyway. I guess they could score a few West Indian mercenaries and county cricketers if it doesn't clash with the Hundred and CPL.TapsC2 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 15, 2023 6:58 amI'm hearing its happening in May. The logo, it's the same as the Abu Dhabi one and it's nothing to do with ZC or anyone in Zim tbf. Blame the Indianszimbos_05 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 15, 2023 3:22 am5. The logo. Absolute shite again. Has anyone in Zim heard of Adobe or even Canva. Why is it always these knock off MS paint jobs.

As for the benefit, probably very little. Hopefully there is more than 1 or 2 Zim players per XI. Hopefully they get paid well. Although the top handful of players here already do anyway.
Maybe these people will spend some money tarting HSC and Queens up a bit? That coupled with the ICC Qualifier facility money should keep those two grounds decent for a while. Hopefully the floodlights they are installing are permanent.
Other than that I'm struggling to think of much benefit.
This is mostly the government leeching on to a willing investor and using cricket as a small distraction/vehicle for all sorts of no doubt huge government corruption. Al Jazeera will probably do an exposè on it 15 years later

Someones going to do a runner with the cash
Re: Makoni announces Zim Afro T10
Does ZC really think our players can master FOUR different versions of the game? Or haven't they thought about that at all? Gimmicks!
Re: Makoni announces Zim Afro T10
T10, give me a break.
I look forward to the day when cricket is just reduced to a coin toss. Have some dancing girls, do a countdown from 10, have a coin toss known as the Super Maximum Toss, get Danny Morrison to announce the winner, release some fireworks, and then everyone can go home. You could stage an entire tournament in 30 minutes!
Since these tournaments exist solely for betting purposes, we may as well just not bother playing meaningless cricket and instead just bet on the toss.
