Question is, is qualification all that important since qualification to a 20 team T20 World Cup is all but assured.

And it’s more frequent than the ODI World Cup.

Just a rhetorical question btw.

Both West Indies and Sri Lanka are inconsistent, I think Zimbabwe is within a chance.

It's massively important for a number of reasons

- 50 Over WC is still a much more prestigious event in comparison to the t20 version
- A chance to play on the world stage against the best players in this format
- World exposure for the players
- A chance of achieving something with significance

The last point I believe is the most important, yes they have qualified for the last T20 WC which they had to go through two stages of qualifying. But I feel winning this tournament (or coming second) is much more significant because as we know the longer the format the harder it is to upset bigger sides.

For the likes of Ervine, Raza, Williams and Chatara, this would undoubtedly be the greatest achievement of their careers, and would be great redemption from the last event where the three batsman would all be still carrying scars from not getting the job done at the end.

Getting 9 ODIs on the world stage against the best countries would also be great for the players, a chance to play England which no current Zimbabwean player has ever done will also be a great occasion for the players and the country.

Having the games in India might also suit the team, although they have little experience playing there, but they'll likely be greeted with flat batting paradises, so it gives the batsman a chance to do well.
