When you look at it honestly we are better off playing 16 List A plus 16 T20 games and 4 FC games than the current 8 games in each format. Our limited overs seasons are so short that if you are not in form, injured or on national duty you can miss the whole thing. We don't play Test cricket anyway. Selection then becomes a nightmare. Nobody has time to grow in a season
For example a 24 year old like Munyonga has played 34 FC games, 36 T20s and 45 List A games. Would he not be better off having played 100 List A games and 15 Logan Cup games?

Re: Regional Trials
You think ZC are flying two teams down there?800km would be bad if they are driving but I would be surprised if that was case. Otherwise its a total of 3 hours by plane.

Re: Regional Trials
It's high time players have a spot at national team and club level
Madhevere is being used all over the lineup so is Craig
Openers should be openers
6th Burl or a finisher - allrounder
7th Madande or any wk
8th jongwe - all rounder pace bowler
9th specialist spinner
Ngarava
Blessings
Back in the days we had 3 or 4 allrounders
Guy Whithall, Neil Johnson, Grant Flower, Heather Streak
Now only Raza and Sean with Sean injured alot its only Raza..

Re: Regional Trials
Isn't the trial in Bulawayo at the strip club? Presumably all the ZC admin spend a lot of time in Bulawayo these days?
Neil Johnson, Alistair Campbell, Murray Goodwin, Andy Flower (w), Grant Flower, Dave Houghton, Guy Whittall, Heath Streak (c), Andy Blignaut, Ray Price, Eddo Brandes

Is that not what generally happens anyway?Mueddie28 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 27, 2023 1:30 amIt's high time players have a spot at national team and club level

Madhevere floats because they're determined to find a spot where he can make some runs. If they keep picking him he has to bat somewhere. What Madhevere doesn't realise is if he put in the hours Jonty Rhodes did he's such an electric fielder you could almost pick him for his fielding alone, but they turned him into The Chosen One instead. ZC love doing that and the fall from grace is inevitable.
Re: Regional Trials
Burl is a good allrounder. Evans could be a decent one.
If Madhevere came right he's also an all-rounder.
Have you just escaped from somewhere and trying to catch up?

100% correct. We've been saying this for a long time.TapsC2 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 26, 2023 11:38 amWhen you look at it honestly we are better off playing 16 List A plus 16 T20 games and 4 FC games than the current 8 games in each format. Could also play the 4 day stuff before the rains. I still think thy should play the 8 Logan cup games. Its the main building block for player development.
The NPL T20 and the franchise is blurred because all the players play it. More people are paying attention to club as well so that line is also increasingly blurred. It's a good thing, but they need to schedule it better and plan the formats better. We are playing a lot more cricket and the national players have to play the NPL so that's all moving in the right direction.
Re: Regional Trials
I'm guessing the team sheets are a closely guarded secret?
Will there be a livestream for the selectors or will they just look at the scorecards?
Will we see the pole and dagga dancers become makeshift pompom girls.
Will leading run scorer and wicket taker get a lap dance?
If a bowler gets 17 off 6 at the back end will he open the batting in the T20's?
So many questions...

Re: Regional Trials
I'd love to see Makoni and Roy Kaia top score and get most wickets and for the Royalty to not do much, we could have a new look team. Not that I think the Royalty will play, I think 6 games a year is enough for them to stay in good nick.
