one of Welch or Wes will miss out.
Definitely one will miss out. Maybe Welch is retained due to English/county experience?

Raza will obviously play and it's not like he will take someone's spot who is more deserving. Curran, Bennett, Welch, Williams, Ervine and Raza is our best 6 bats. surely we can get a respectable score against a weakened England bowling attack

I would have put Kaitano in against England, instead of welly. Nyauchi will be in favourable conditions so he has to be in the 11.

You always have to have a backup keeper, but I don’t know what Madande has done to get back in??

Why would people argue with the Raza selection?!??

He is still within our top three batsmen, and he can bowl, and he’s arguably our best fielder, and he has experience and leadership in abundance, both of which we need to avoid getting embarrassed inside a day and a half.

Also we really need four seamers in those conditions and against England’s batting lineup but the selectors in their wisdom have failed to select a single seamer who can bat. So the only option is to play 8 batters. Which I generally hate. But it is what it is. Again, it’s damage limitation.

Curran
Bennett
Welch
Williams
Ervine
Raza
Wes
Tsiga (I’d still have picked Mayavo)
Ngarava
Muzarabani
Nyauchi

Masakadza a pointless selection in English conditions. Should have picked Campbell for batting cover. Good enough to be our captain two Tests ago but now not even in the squad?!

Because it stinks of the very things ZC is accused of regarding other players.

People questioning Nyamhuri when he was selected from nowhere. He’s played more red ball cricket in the last three years than raza has. So if you’re questioning Nyamhuri selected on zero red ball experience, you’d need to question raza being selected too. If you’re picking raza based on form in irrelevant formats then the same goes for Nyamhuri.

People who were saying Wellington is a nepotism selection, maybe it is, but it’s just as sketchy as raza being picked on the premise of paying back old favours. At least Wellington turns out every week in domestic.

People saying Wez had a longer rope than everyone else, then when it finally broke, he had to go back to domestic and make centuries in Logan cup to get noticed again, same with Dion Myers. How long is Raza’s rope that he can pick and choose and never has to play domestic?

Curran, jonno and welch quite rightly had to play a few seasons of domestic to prove they warranted selection. Why doesn’t raza? He’s probably the only one of the national side who doesn’t play any domestic. Even injury prone Ervine and Williams play it.

To accommodate him, you’re either extending the quota and dropping wellington who played his part in winning a test match last week.

Or

Extending the quota and dropping wez who played his part in winning a test match last week and has also scored three first class tons last season.

Or

Dropping one of Bennett, Curran, Welch or Williams who won a test match last week and all made runs in Bangers.

To be honest Raza is the exception along with Ervine and Williams. Williams barely plays or trains but he is the first name on the team sheet. Raza is by far the most dangerous spinner we have and he is more than handy with the bat. In December he scored a hundred runs and picked up a few wickets in that test.

That’s different though

He’s so injury prone it’s sensible policy

People need to get off their high horses and all this moral bullshit about which games he has or hasnt played.

We are going to get fucking trounced, we need to pick our best XI. Raza is obviously in our best XI, for multiple reasons.

Just pick the strongest players. It’s not hard.
