Re: AP announces Sqaud for Kenya and Bangladesh series
I'm just curious as to why garwe has never played a match for zimbabwe. If he has got some pace, and he moves the ball as much as you say then surely he'd be one of the 1st choice seamers. And he can bat aswell. Can he bowl in exess of 80mph or is he slightly slower than that ??

Re: AP announces Sqaud for Kenya and Bangladesh series
I think the selectors were rather cruel on Maruma, why is Waller in the squad?. I can force myself to understand Jarvis' inclusion although i feel he should not play ahead of Garwe, we should put him maybe in the 4th or 5th ODI against Kenya not that i dont like the guy but its bad for sport if no performance is rewarded at the expense of good performance.
12.4 Odhiambo to Vermeulen, FOUR, that's an appalling long hop, Vermulen had plenty of time to get into position, drink a cup of tea, and pull the ball towards the long leg boundary- his first boundary today

Re: AP announces Sqaud for Kenya and Bangladesh series
Oops, i hope that the squad don't believe this announcement as Bangladesh are expecting the 5 ODI's to take place between 27th October and 5th November, it's the U19's that will be in Bangla during the later part of November ......
http://www.cricinfo.com/bdeshvzim09/con ... 22636.html
The domestic season will be affected for one round of games while the touring squad are away, who will suffer the most ?
Eagles : Chigumbura, Garwe, Price & Mutizwa,
Mountaineers : Masakadza, Matsikenyeri, Taibu & Utseya,
Rhinos : Cremer, Taylor & Waller
Rocks :
Tuskers : Coventry, Mpofu, Vermuelen & Williams
plus Jarvis if he should sign up with a franchise before the tour.
The Logan fixtures on 22nd to 25th October and Faithwear on 27th are Mountaineers v Rhinos and Rocks v Tuskers, which should please all Eagles supporters, the previous round of games are due to be played on 14th to 17th which should be ok, but i wonder if the squad will be allowed to play the Faithwear fixtures on 19th ?

http://www.cricinfo.com/zimbabwe/conten ... 28700.htmlTaibu back in national team
Tatenda Taibu has made his return to the national team, after being picked for the 16-member Zimbabwe squad for the home series against Kenya and the tour of Bangladesh. The 26-year-old former captain, who last played an ODI in January this year, has been in the eye of the storm ever since - he was first dropped from the national squad after refusing to play in anything other than his own kit, and was slapped with a ten-match ban by the Harare Magistrate's Court after assaulting Zimbabwe Cricket's general finance manager, an incident he previously lied about to the magistrate.
More recently, he played for the Zimbabwe XI team in the Intercontinental Cup, and was also part of the Zimbabwe A squad that took on the Bangladesh in a tour game ahead of their five-match ODI series in Zimbabwe in August. He has also scored 177 runs at 29.50 for the Mountaineers in the three matches he's played so far played in the Logan Cup.
Alistair Campbell, the former Zimbabwean captain and the current chairman of selectors, informed that while the 16-strong squad will take on Kenya for the home ODl series beginning October 12, the final 15 for the trip to Bangladesh at the end of November will be announced only after the five-match encounter ends, in Harare.
Campbell also announced the Zimbabwe XI team that would take part in the Intercontinental Cup fixture against Kenya from October 7-10 in Kwekwe.
While Chamu Chibhabha, Ed Rainsford and Vusi Sibanda dropped down to the Zimbabwe XI squad from the team that lost 1-4 to Bangladesh at home, Tawanda Mupariwa did not feature in either squad. Kyle Jarvis, Chris Mpofu, Forster Mutizwa and Malcolm Waller were the new additions along with Taibu for the Kenya series. In fact, Jarvis and Mutizwa have also been picked for the Zimbabwe XI squad.
Zimbabwe squad for Kenya series (finalised) and Bangladesh tour (yet to be confirmed): Elton Chigumbura, Charles Coventry, Graeme Cremer, Trevor Garwe, Kyle Jarvis, Ray Price, Hamilton Masakadza, Stuart Matsikenyeri, Chris Mpofu, Forster Mutizwa, Tatenda Taibu, Brendan Taylor, Prosper Utseya (capt), Mark Vermuelen, Malcolm Waller, Sean Williams
Zimbabwe XI squad: Chamu Chibhabha, Regis Chikabvha, Kyle Jarvis, Friday Kasteni, Timycen Maruma, Shingirai Masakadza, Forster Mutizwa, John Nyumbu, Ed Rainsford, Vusi Sibanda (capt), Gregory Strydom, Tafadzwa Kamungozi, Samuel Mwakayeni

Re: AP announces Sqaud for Kenya and Bangladesh series
Hmmm... For the Kenya series it looks like this:
Changes from the Bangladesh series
Out
Tawanda Mupariwa
Edward Rainsford
Justice Chibhabha
Vusimuzi Sibanda
In
Kyle Jarvis
Christopher Mpofu
Trevor Garwe
Forster Mutizwa
The most interesting fact in this squad is that the two pacers (Rainsford, Mupariwa) have been dropped.
It seems that we have got no problem with the inclusion of Mutizwa and Mpofu in the team. Indeed they deserve to be in the team
The pace attack of Zimbabwe looked ineffective in the both lossing against Bangladesh. I think for this reason Rainsford and Mupariwa were cut from the squad. I was quite surprised seeing Mupariwa not in the squad since he was the fastest Zimbabwean to take 50 ODI wickets. But he lacked pace off late in the Bangladesh series and in the franchise season his form has been very very poor for Matabeleland Tuskers. So, OKAY for me with it.
Chibhabha and Sibanda is surely dropped for their poor form. I did suspect it after the end of the ODI series along with Waller and Matsikenyeri although he seems to do enough to retain his position in the side. That's OKAY
Trevor Garwe is rewarded for his domestic performance. OKAY for me.
It seems that there has been quite a lot debate about 3 questions:
1. Is it a gamble to take Kyle Jarvis ?
2. Is it okay to left out Timycen Maruma ?
3. Is it okay to stick with Malcolm Waller ?
Let me put my thoughts here:
1. Yes, it's a gamble. But Zimbabwe indeed lacked match winning pace bowlers after the departure of Streak, Blignaut. Zimbabwe didn't have a bowler who has got extreme pace which is necessary for team to dominate and get success. Since Kyle Jarvis is currently the quickest pacer in Zimbabwe, it's okay to take him. I agree with zimfan1, he should have achieved it by playing in a franchise. At least I would have given him some FC matches under his belt to proove himself before selecting him for the national side.
2. No, it's not. Timycen Maruma should be in the national squad. It wasn't right to overlook him. He has been consistently putting great performance by picking many wickets as well as scoring runs. He can be a good addition to the national squad. At least he should have got his reward for his excellent domestic performance. He should be given a go in the international arena to proove himself like he did in domestic circuit. If he is in the 15 player squad, who knows he can make it to the playing XI and justify his selection. May be as there are three spinners already in the Zimbabwean squad, he was overlooked. If so, I have to say that in this case Prosper Utseya has become a bar in his selection. If Utseya is becoming an extra weight in the team then why to stick with him as a skipper ??? I really don't understand.
3. No, it's not. There is no point to have Malcolm Waller in the national squad. His form has been suffering quite a lot in this franchise season. He hasn't proven himself in the 8 ODI's that he played. His batting average is dropping although it's early days for him. FC ave has become 33 from 40 and averages just 17 in 26 List A matches. His form really doesn't justify his selection. He should be included in the team when he starts to score big runs on a consistent basis in the domestic cricket. Till then, I will have him as a member or the captain of the ''A'' side.
All in all, it's a good selection apart from one mistake. I would have had Maruma in place of Waller.

Re: AP announces Sqaud for Kenya and Bangladesh series
If we can get Jarvis into the side than I think we should also try pursuaing Ireland, Macmilian and Panyangarara. I dont think we will ever get Sean Ervine back. Jarvis is young and I think if he gets help from Streak he will be one to surely watch out for.
The selection of Waller lives more questions than answers at the same time overlooking someone like Maruma. Lets hope Campbell and Co. correct their "wrongs" before the ship sinks. Its surely doesnt look pretty for our A' side at moment at 85/4.
