Jonty knows ball
they missed a trick not picking him for that match in Worcester last week.

Re: Tri series Zim, SA NZ
I dont think he's even been in a Sammonds squad, has he?
Its possible he approached Sammonds and asked why he wasn't though. If he got that part wrong I'm sure it would have annoyed Sammonds. Sammonds would have had a heads up he was coming and that ZC wanted to focus on other guys.
Evans was contracted throughout his year long absence and then lost his contract the second he'd recovered from it. That just seemed like a waste of money and a poor message. They havent had many guys vying for that first change spot and then suddenly along comes Gwandu, Maphosa and Nyamhuri...Chitaira as well. Hes the guy the batters rate.
Its a double glove slap to lose your contract when you haven't even had the chance to play a couple of comeback games.
I've always said Evans needs to toughen up. Some guy's journeys are just a lot harder.
I would bet money he complained, probably poorly, and it was not well received. He hasn't been too smart how he manages that side of things in the past. When you know your bowling stats are pretty good and that you should be thereabouts you need to bat a lot smarter, the politics are enormous. If as a white guy in particular, you complain, they dont like it and they teach you a lesson as to who's boss. Applies to most of the players, but the black guys dont whinge, they accept. They know youre not winning that one.
An aggrieved black guy will make some discrete enquiries as to why and what. A white guy will go barging in.
Doesn't work
Theoretically Sammonds cant put him in the extended squad anyway. The only way he woukd have some sway is if the bowling was terrible and it was logical and there were no other options. The test bowling was shite, the current bowling has been good and memories are short.
ZC need to look after the periphal guys. How do they think these guys live from day to day? Youre trying to earn a national spot and at the same time youre doing an involuntary Naked and Afraid. The situation is made worse when everyone knows that there are players nowhere near the side that are being paid handsomely.

I don't have to say much about this. You have pretty much said everything and there is nothing i can subtract.
The way Brad handled things was terrible. He did not approach Sammonds he approached the bowling coach, questioning his non-selection. It was on the back of scoring 80 in one of the logan cup games. His tone and way he presented his case was disrespectful and put it as if it is a given that he must play.
In all fairness, Brad Evans is a bowler we cannot say he is an allrounder in international cricket. Can we compare him with Ben Stokes, Cameroon Green, Beau Webster, Marco Jansen? He has the potential to be an all-rounder make no mistake about that but for now he is just a bowler. He reminds me of Streak. Streak was a bowler but worked on his batting and became a genuine allrounder. The potential is there.
Coming to your issue about Gwandu, Maphosa and Nyamhuri. Fair play to Gwandu he has been given a chance and took the opportunity and used it well and looking at their international figures Gwandu is an inch ahead of Brad. As for Nyamhuri and Tino Maposa their international career or rather professional careers are still at infancy i cant really say much about them, they could be gems or completely the opposite. Brad could argue about Tino and i can take it as fair argument. As for Nyamnhuri the kid is just raw talent he brings a few things to the team that Brad cant bring for example being a left armer, raw pace. Whilst its good to have Newman I'm thinking he is being rushed look at how Kwena Maphaka is being gradually introduced to International cricket, on the flipside Zimbabwe we don't have the luxury unless we are playing Nigeria etc otherwise every game we play is a crunch game.
Brad just needs to reflect and work on his attitude, stop being arrogant and make peace with the technical team. Ask them questions like what do i have to do to get my place back in the side. Go back to domestic and follow that plan and if he achieve the set goals and reach the standards set for him and is not picked then the technical has issues and needs to be probed.

Interesting write up. I am a fan of Brad Evans’ bowling, he’s a gun bowler and far better than Gwandu and the likes, if you have watched them in person for a while.
However, I have spent time with him over the years and like I’ve said on here before, he is an arrogant bugger. I don’t click with him as he has this superiority complex about him. Not a bad guy, just not my cup of tea. This kind of attitude is exactly what the ego-ist thieves at the top hate. Especially from a Rhodesian.
Like I said, good bowler and streets above the rest of the third choicers. Don’t rate his batting though, never have. Thinks he’s a genuine all-rounder but I just don’t see it.

In fairness to ZC I dont think they've completely discarded him, I think Evans just has to shut up and face the front and be the best he can be. ZC have actually tolerated quite a few flawed people, they're pretty good in that regard. I mean they tolerated Vermeulen and he really should have been booted into touch for a lot of what he did.
He apparently did get a call saying he was no longer on the radar and to go forth and multiply, but I don't know the context of it. They gave him a game against Worcestershire, he bowled at the squad before the England game, so either thats been exaggerated or taken out of context.
It should be crystal clear to him that he's still in with a long shot, but has to keep quiet and try and be at least 20% better than his competition. And he had to learn how to make runs somehow. Chitaira is coming with oressure. Macheka is coming with pressure. Competition for seaming spots is tough. Anyone securing those spots is going to have to be good, and/or bat.

Thanks for bringing this up. I mean i don't know you and you don't know me but we seem to be saying the same things. He is a decent bowler no doubt unfortunately the injury set him back big time and right now Gwandu has performed decently and would be unfair to just drop him for a bowler coming back from injury. Had Brad been patient he would have easily made is way back into the side quite quick soon.Flakeman wrote: ↑Mon Jul 21, 2025 3:03 pmInteresting write up. Well said Googly, ZC have actually tolerated a lot of worse BS than what Brad Evans has done. There are players who are still playing who would think they don't want to go on tour anymore when they have checked in at airport and stay behind. Then 4 days later they think they wanna travel and they will get new tickets and be welcomed into the squad.Googly wrote: ↑Mon Jul 21, 2025 4:34 pmIn fairness to ZC I dont think they've completely discarded him, I think Evans just has to shut up and face the front and be the best he can be. But gone are those days now. Sammonds has brought in a no nonsense SAFA culture within the team.
