I can't see Chigumbura missing out on the Wt20, I think the management have just given him some time off. Doesn't he have a lot of friends in high places? There's no way he won't be in the squad.
Ervine is terrible in t20 and we've all known this for a while, he shouldn't be picked.
How the heck does trundlers like Munyaradzi get to play 4 matches at Econ. Rate of 11 and Eagles don't give opportunities to Zhawi or Diplock?
The worst part for us now are the seamers. Panyangara not match fit, Chatara not picking wickets and probably not back to his best yet. Can we gamble on them? Tiripano always gives the impression of an honest trier and has some pace about him. He sits on top of the wicket takers list too in this T20 tournament. Can he lead the attack?
Unfortunately both Jongwe and Madziva have been leaking runs even locally. Nyauchi and Muzhange have looked good though. Shingi could have been an option but he goes for too many runs although he can blast a few. Vitori's bowling has lost it completely. He'll be killed at the international level by the looks of it.
Based on recent domestic form (not just these T20s), I would go for:
Chisoro ahead of Mugochi, surely? He has been very helpful in our good performances.
Cremer, Chisoro, Wellington, Mufudza looks like our best spin options for the squad.
I think Muzhange deserves a squad slot - he has come back with tight overs and wickets.
Jongwe has been off the boil with bat and ball. See how the last day goes.
Tiripano must have some chance. Shingi is amongst the wickets as always and can bat 9 quite well, but a domestic 8.5 econ rate will translate to 10.5 in T20Is.
The only worrying thing about Muzhange is that he is bowling in the "safe" periods and has hardly bowled his full quarter in all matches. But he has been In amongst the wickets which is a good thing. But with most side in the WC picking wildcard why not pick him. Only problem is we don't know how fit Panyangara and Chatara are. Bowling options could be
Panyangar
Chatara
Wasakadza
Chisoro/Mufudza
or
Tiripano
Muzhange
Wasakadza
Chisoro/Mufudza
CHRISTOPHER MPOFU: 'The problem was fear of failure. I used to think that when I played, if I didn't do well in one game, I would lose my place for the next one but now I've let go of that'
Tiripano has, for a long time now, been our Dr Dependable. He might not set the world alight, but in the absence if in-form seamers, surely he must get a look in. Its a pity that Shingi has been out of form until now, as he also provides some very useful lower order batting oomph. When our bowlers are not world beaters, we need to be able to bat all the way down, with people who are able to maintain a healthy strike rate.
Peterhouse U14C 4th change bowler and no. 10 batsman (but only because Aaron didn't have a bat).
