He denied Welch a 50 against SA playing T20 in a test match as well.Zayn_63 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 23, 2026 5:14 pmNgarava needs to learn how to stay off strike. He did the same thing in 2022 wc against bangladesh. Got a four off the edge and smoked one six , shouldve taken a single and let burl face the last ball that needed to go for a 4 or 6. But he got himself out and muzarabani was unable to do it with burl stuck on the non striker end

There’s basically no one else. Probably too soon to give it to Bennett (also little to no captaincy experience anyway).brmtaylor.com admin wrote: ↑Mon Feb 23, 2026 5:13 pmThat's our test captain you're talking about.![]()
Does anyone know why Ngarava got the nod? A fast bowler who's perpetually injured and has no captaincy experience seems like an odd choice. For all ZC's faults, in the past they have normally used some common sense when it comes to naming a test captain.

Burl has 3 ducks in 3 tests. Last played years ago.

Its a world first giving a guy captaincy who has never captained a game in his life. And a seamer?
Only in Zim
Even if he'd had 10 ducks he still knows cricket.

Is it any weirder than giving J Campbell the blazer on debut?
That still irks me, it made no sense at the time. Why not Ngarava then if he was seen as captaincy material? Madhevere or Welch would have made more sense.

With williams gone, I am more than happy to recall Burl in the test team but sadly the selectors think he is not red ball material and looks like he is not playing first class

Pat cummins took over from paine and had very limited prior captaincy experience.. 4 games for nsw
But yeah, its cummins
Ngarava is nowhere near half as good as him

The choice in that Irish game was Welch, Madhevere, Campbell. Welch and Campbell are sharp at the game.
I think Welch's temper counts against him.
