Curran can't expect to be in the team after just one season, no harm, if he has a couple of seasons then gets into good form and push for a place in the national side. I don't think these players coming from UK should have expectations like "we're so good and the moment we go to Zim we should be in the national team", that's not happening.
I think that’s exactly what Ben Curran is thinking Sam, I think that he thought he’d come over have a good season and he would be playing for Zimbabwe before the CWCQ next year.
I don’t think he is/ was expecting to have to put together multiple seasons of solid output for the Rocks before getting into the National side.
I think with Hami needs to sit down with Welch and convince him to come when Ervine and Williams retire. My prediction is we are less than 18 months away from that.. might even be much sooner than that if we don't make the ODI world cup.
It's a win win for both parties. Welch has "proven" he can score runs domestically so he could immediately get a deal when the time comes. For now he can keep on getting more county experience..
The same applies for Byrom but I have a feeling he can do great things out there which might make him more reluctant.

Should be trying to get Welch before the CWCQ, assuming it’s the same format as last time? 2 Finalists qualify for the CWC?

I think Ervine will go up to the 2023 WCQ. Raza and maybe Williams I expect to last until the 2024 CWC.
Ya Curran has had a horror start for himself. I don't know what his best format is? He does well in T20 but it's with a lot of paddle sweeps. I guess it doesn't matter how you get them.

Byrom is a serious player, but how much Test cricket will we play going forward? He hasn't had the opportunities in 50 over that he should have, which is annoying. They perceive him to be only a red ball player and he definitely is not.
He's a class batsman.
Same story with Welch, they perceive him to be a white ball player and he offers more, perhaps not as red ball opener though, plays too many shots.
Byrom did an interview with Dean Du Plessis a few years back, he made it very clear during that interview he wasn’t ever going to play for Zimbabwe. He kept referring to Zimbabwe as ‘them’ and ‘over there’ just gave the impression he didn’t really consider himself a Zimbo.
Could be wrong but that’s the impression I got from it. I have zero belief or hope he will play for Zim, ever ……

Well I hope he does well and gets selected but obviously not going to happen if he is having a poor season. What is good though is that Zimbabwe are now having serious competition for places in the side and that's really good.
