As we are considering people at the top of their game, Elton before 2010 at the top of his game has even opened the bowling for us with good success. Especially being lethal against the left handed batsmen. And earned an overseas contract with a county side no less, something only the Flowers and Streak could do if I remember correctly.
Yes players all their peak so Elton is no doubt a bonafide all-rounder, I was always a big fan of ‘Elton the bowler’ maybe more so than his batting which was always hit or miss

In saying this even during that period of 2007-2010 where he bowled a lot; Elton still had his off days and that’s where my point lies, if Elton was off there isn’t that back up

Feel free to pick my side apart 😁

Ah, finally. Glad you picked one of my all-time favourites.
Haha I knew you’d like that selection; I always intended to have two front line spinners in my side, that’s why I moved quickly to secure Johnson, Slug & KC to open up an extra spot down the order.

I had Chisoro in mind as he would give me a left arm option; heck I even thought about Dirk Viljoen who surprisingly had a good bowling record. But when Kriterion took Chisoro that left me deciding between Traicos & Brian Murphy.

I was really tempted to go for Murphy as I always felt he was a good bowler; but for injuries & issues with the board ruining his career. Richie Benaud was a big fan of his which is a great endorsement in itself.

But in the end I already had Cremer so I felt another leg-spin option might be over kill; once I saw your comments FF I knew I’d be a good chance to get your vote if I selected John.

I can understand. You are trying to attack the strongest part of my XI. With the same argument, the other 3 bowling units will suffer far more :D.

And I'll not do the picking others' side apart, instead, as I said, I'll say what my side brings to the table 8-)

No Murphy was not that good. Even I was enamored for a while, but he was nothing special overall. He was hyped up as a future captain and all that, but wasn't up there.

There you yan Burl; I did have him pencilled in for Kriterion, but he went for Peter Moor instead, I felt Kriterion's side needed another bowling option at No.6, he might have missed a trick there.

I almost took Burl, but settled for Moor who is at least established in one format. It was a toss up between those two for me. I also considered Panyangara as my 3rd seamer but took Shingi because I think he's almost as good a red-ball bowler and a much better bat (again picked a Test heavy side).

Not sure if you missed that this was an ODI based side??

Moor & Panyangara definitely get picked in a Test XI

Murphy probably turned the ball more than any leg spinner to have played for Zimbabwe, but he bowled so many full tosses and long hops. He could have been a very good bowler but like Crimson said, he was hyped up on that 2000 West Indies tour and probably believed in his own myth too much.

Third seamer option could have been Anthony Ireland or Tawanda Mupariwa they both had good ODI records despite not being that quick.

Douglas Hondo & Chris Mpofu both would probably be better ODI bowlers as well, none were better batsman though.

I actually flirted with the idea of picking Everton Matambanadzo as a wildcard selection; he had some decent pace and a good average with the ball, but his career was way too short

Apparently a stock broker now in the US
