A big reason why a lot of associates have done well in this World Cup is because of the low scoring pitches. It really evens out the contest drastically. The margins are very low and it can so easily go either way.

There has actually only been 2 associate wins over a full member at this tournament, and the winning scores were;
159-3 (+super over) - yes, quite low, but actually on the higher side for this tournament.
137-7 - yes, low, but actually the highest 1st innings score of any match played on that ground.

So I'm not sure that low-scoring pitches thing is actually backed up here. Additionally, Scotland scored 90 off 10 overs vs England and then put 180-odd past Australia.

When Canada and the USA played each other in one of the highest quality matches I've seen in this world cup, they both scored 190+.

All in all 160 is is a low-average total in T20, and 137 is fully a low scoring total. So I would say that both Associate wins have been on lowish score situations.

In terms of competing well, Nepal's close calls have both come in very low scoring encounters. As a general rule the tougher the wicket, the more the contest evens out especially in the shortest format.

The pitches have made this the best T20 tournament ever. I'm actually engaged in the proceedings, unlike the IPL where my eyes glaze over at the sight of another SIX.

Last IPl boom boom cricket got ....boring.
Much better low score contested matches rather than counting sixes every other ball

In the end a reasonably close game. Well done to USA proving its not just a fluke. They've improved a lot in the last year or so. A world better than the side that showed up to the ODI qualifiers a year ago.
