Sean Williams' poor run of form with bat & ball continued.

He has a chance in a dead rubber in which Ireland have probably rested their frontline bowlers in order to prepare for the 4 day game, but then most of the batsmen he struggled to bowl to will return.

He improved with the bat in the last game but still fell short of 50. Got 43 runs. Conceded 24 runs in 4 overs at 6rpo for no wicket. So basically contributed just 19 runs to the team effort.

Batting: 13 Matches, 265 Runs Scored, 24.09 Average, 1 Fifty
Bowling: 13 Matches, 449 Runs Conceded, 3 Wickets, 149.66 Average, 182.6 Strike Rate
Nett benefit to the team: -184 Runs

He's had a couple of decent knocks for Zimbabwe in the 2015CWC and also the 2007CWC, but by and large he has often been a liability with the bat for Zimbabwe during Series against the better sides. Far from convincing when Zimbabwe need him most.

As was the case against Pakistan(home&away), India, New Zealand, and now Ireland, the ODI Series have long been lost, in Ireland's case won, without his contribution with the bat (and more harm than good with the ball).

Yet in a recent ZCF poll he still finds himself as Zimbabwe's best batsman.

Still can't wrap my head around how someone who has failed in 5 consecutive Series, still finds himself in the team yet Hami was dropped after failing in two innings.

Like Cremer, it's pretty clear the odd impressive performances in T20 can give one a passport to heaven - Test&ODI assurance. Cephas needs to make that T20 side asap!

I am surprised that Williams has only averaged 24 since the WC that is poor by his standards but we're lucky his poor form is still better than any replacement waiting in the wings ( Waller avg 20 - Matsi avg 22 - Maruma avg 9 ). As for his bowling he has never been a massive wicket taker he is more of a 'get through some tight overs' type of bowler. Your logic off taking his runs conceded away from his runs scored is ludicrous how can any player compete with that

Just putting up a stat from the same filter. Post world cup, only 4 people have conceded less than 5 an over. Williams, Nyumbu, Chibhabha and Hammy. Hammy being the most economical and Williams having bowled the second most number of overs of all the bowlers on display.

Why are you posting this as if I haven't provided links and graphics which show the same earlier in the thread? As if to say I'm leaving out some information deliberately? All you neede to to was sort.

Williams' job is not to be there scoring little runs, and conceding them at a low rate.

That Hami has a better economy rate, and Williams has bowled a number of overs has already been discussed here or elsewhere. Sorry it took you this many threads and pages to become aware Jemisi & Crimson.

Fact of the matter is Ireland were well on course to score 300-320, he was powerless to take wickets, and lacked the skill to stem the flow of runs against a set batting order. In a nutshell he's not good enough as a frontline spinner, and has benefitted from wickets Jongwe, Panyangara & Chamu have been taking upfront. Enough overs to Stirling and O'Brien and he'll be hurt bigtime again.

The team can't keep taking wickets for him. He needs to take wickets for them as well.

I just love how the "best batsman" of the team has his place on the team defended on the basis of his non-wickettakinig economical bowling!

jaybro that's not something new or odd. Fact remains he's a liability and having a negative contribution with bat & ball. A better package was dropped, an inferior one remains. Some buffoon between (Ziehl, Whatmore & Bundu) is making this decision.

If the news I'm hearing is correct then the tour to Bangaldesh is ODIs&T20s. Hami has been dropped, so he might not be picked for that tour since he's dropped for this one. Strange thing is Williams will go, as will Cremer, and his failure to take wickets will heap pressure on a Cremer who has been worse than him in ODIs, but will probably be picked ahead of Wellington/Nyumbu. Distaster!

In 20 matches vs Bangladesh, Williams has conceded 290 Runs, got 6 wickets, 4.61rpo, averages 48.33, and has a Strike Rate of 62.8. However, half of those matches have been played in Bangladesh, and there he has conceded 131 Runs, got 2 wickets, 3.96rpo, averages 65.50 and has a Strike rate of 99. He would have been economical, scored his average of 30 runs there, but conceded 40 runs for no wickets. Face it, Williams is not worth two players on this form.

He is costing Zimbabwe a batsman or a spinner. Funny how quickly people loved to blame Chigumbura for exactly the same yet are quiet on Williams. The consistency is refreshing.
