Guys we need Scotland to beat the West Indies.
If Scotland beat the West Indies the best the West Indies can get is 6 points.
Then all we need to do is win against either the West Indies or the UAE and we are through.
What is the equation now?
Re: What is the equation now?
Wait aren't we better off if Ireland beat Scotland? Surely that's better for us. The higgest number of points Afghanistan or Ireland can get is 6. A win against the UAE takes us to 7. Scotland are more of a threat we need them to lose. Beating the UAE might not be enough if Scotland are still in it .
These equations are exhausting
Re: What is the equation now?
It also looks like all our opponents need us to beat the West Indies to stay alive now.. funny game.

But if the West Indies lose then they can only get 6 points.TapsC wrote: ↑Fri Mar 16, 2018 5:49 pmWait aren't we better off if Ireland beat Scotland? Surely that's better for us. If the West Indies win they can get 8 points and if Scotland beat both Ireland and the West Indies they can get 9 points.
However if the West Indies lose then no team apart from Scotland and Zimbabwe can get more than 6 points.
This means that if we win one of the next 2 games we will have 7 points and Scotland will have either 7 or 9 points and we will both qualify.
The key point is that if the West Indies lose to Scotland they cannot finish higer than Zimbabwe unless Zimbabwe lose both games.
Please confirm if I am right or wrong. But I am fairly certain the if the West Indies lose to Scotland on Sunday we only need 1 win to secure qualification.

Isn't Scotland playing Ireland on Sunday?zimfan1 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 16, 2018 6:00 pmBut if the West Indies lose then they can only get 6 points.TapsC wrote: ↑Fri Mar 16, 2018 5:49 pmWait aren't we better off if Ireland beat Scotland? Re: What is the equation now?
If Scotland beat Ireland, West Indies beat Zimbabwe, West Indies beat Scotland, and Zimbabwe beat UAE, there will be 3 one-loss teams in the standings with Zimbabwe and Scotland tied on points.

Re: What is the equation now?
In that case Scotland would have to wallop Ireland by a massive margin to beat ZIM on NRR unless West Indies maul Zimbabwe. Its possible it could come down to NRR. But I think there are yet more "upsets" to come.

Let's hope one of those upsets isn't the UAE defeating Zimbabwe.

Re: What is the equation now?
As far as I see it we just need to look at our own matches:
We beat Windies, we're through.
We lose against the Windies but beat UAE -- only one sequence of other results lead to us being tied with Scotland on points (as stated above by eugene et al); in all other scenarios we're through.
We lose both matches -- we deserve to be out, and only an unlikely combination of results again puts us on level points with Scotland without Ireland or Afg moving past us.

We lose both matches -- we deserve to be out, and only an unlikely combination of results again puts us on level points with Scotland without Ireland or Afg moving past us.

Keen for us and Scotland to progress. The nice guys of the tournament, and as mentioned, will ensure that this 10 team thing is placed in the garbage where it belongs !
