Ben Compton is an interesting one. 27 and hasn't made a consistent breakthrough to first XI county cricket, and is not Zim eligible. Bit of a strange signing really. Not particularly exciting.
I think Compton's mother was born in Zimbabwe?
Oh that’s interesting. Makes sense!
I just presumed all of the Compton’s were Saffas
Nick's mother was 100% born in Zim and I think their mothers are sisters. Doubt he would have a Zim passport and the chances of him getting one would be slim these days. He was due to come last year but couldn't due to covid.

I would be surprised to see Nick Welch back this year, don't think Leicester were impressed that he did not play in any of the domestic stuff last year.

It’s interesting that most of the franchises seem to be starting or about to start pre-season already. I wonder if the NPL is going ahead before the main season or not? A lad I know who did some physio work for one of the NPL clubs last year says he hasn’t heard anything at all yet.

Tuskers - Paul Strange

Mountaineers - Olonga

Rhinos - Sean Ervine

Rocks - Greig Wishart

Why would it be slim if his mother was born in Zim? I had a read and apparently you can only be a dual citizen by birth so hed have to give up his British or other passports. Which means there's a fat chance of Goodwin etc playing for Zim. I guess you may be able to renounce a UK/Aus passport and get it back later on?

You don’t actually need a passport to play international cricket of course. But you’d have to have 3 continuous years of residency leading up to your debut.

If you’re a citizen you can walk into the team. Like Neil Johnson.
If you’re a random from another country you need to do a residency period.
Cricinfo profile of the 'James Bond' of cricket:

Yes but you still have to be a citizen I imagine and you can't be a dual citizen of zimbabwe if not born in Zim.

If you are a citizen, say nick Welch could he play for Zimbabwe tomorrow or would he have to live there for a certain period?

Bad news, Ryan Murray is not coming back this season. Looks like he has given up.

Has he quit cricket altogether? Last I heard, he was playing for Stellenbosch University, is he still studying?

Is Olonga back In ZWE?. Thats one hell of a lineup of formidable ex-players. Any one of them will be a better option than Rajput
