Is this a new tournament. I wasn't aware Zimbabwe had a second premier first class tournament!

How many teams are there?

It's just Northern Vs Southern. Two teams. Two 5-day matches. They are just Select XI's basically. They've done it before a few times in 50-over cricket but this is the first time in red ball that they've had these teams.

Like others have said, maybe there is some magic secret Test series coming up, but everyone I've spoke to says this isn't the case. So it's quite baffling why they are suddenly putting so much effort into arranging so many red ball games in an important limited overs year. It's just weird all round. But cricket is cricket I suppose. I'm glad ZC aren't just doing the bare minimum anymore.

Does anyone know if Zimbabwe has ever played 5-day domestic cricket before, and if so, how long ago?

It is a consolidation of the talent. I think it is worthwhile. We need some way to improve the standard without chucking the Logan cup. I'd prefer a five day game against Namibia but I'll take it.

William Mashinge 🤣

The fact he's even being considered as an international option is laughable. Sure he's not a bad batter, but his bowling is absolutely appalling. He got smoked last summer in division 1 of the cheshire prem. We got promoted to the prem without any help from him. He bowled 102 wides in a season which was literally a record. We gave him an award for it and he wasn't best pleased. His attitude stunk and his arrogance was unbearable. He didn't buy a single beer throughout the summer as he expected it to be in his contract. Not a good bloke and not a good cricketer. Entitled. He went back to Zim apparently and said the reason we didn't have him back was because the club 'don't like black people.' Good old race card being pulled right there.

When I faced Evans, he had a yard and was right in my face. Bowled a heavy ball and could bat. He was easily in the early 80's when I faced him. He also scored a hard hitting 32, for Cardiff. Solid player. There's no comparison, Evans is miles better

Haha thanks buddy. Been waiting for this. Confirms what I suspected and heard even from a franchise perspective about him here. Hopefully hasn't put your club off from signing Zimbos in future!

It's worthwhile, but not when there is a complete absence of white ball cricket and ZC have scheduled only 6 days of T20 cricket this entire season., in a world cup year.

If we can have both, fantastic.

Also there are at least six people missing who really should be here. I'm not convinced the standard is significantly higher than say full strength Tuskers Vs Eagles in the first half of the season.

People saying Evans needs to do more to knock the door down.

He's just finished the Logan Cup campaign with a bowling average of 15 - that's the best bowling average of any full-time bowler in the entire competition: https://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engin ... tournament

And he never gets the new ball. And he was recovering from a broken ankle.

Averaged 30+ with the bat too, batting as low as 6 and 7.

What more does he need?!

Seen some top class pace bowling on display today. Watched Ngarava bowl a lovely spell earlier. Now Chivanga & Nyauchi are on fire together.

Batters aren't covering themselves in glory though. Raza in a class of his own.

Well then someone is deliberately putting the brakes on his cricket career. Who might that be? I reckon he has to persevere for another season and just be as good as he can be and hope for a change in selectors. OR....
What we really need is more international cricket so they can keep experimenting with guys who will not be up to scratch and then eventually we can be completely out of options. Give each guy who isn't going to make it 6 games to prove what we already know and then maybe some unprejudiced selections can happen.
The problem is people have short memories. I see that after Cephas' great innings there's talk that he should play some more T20 for us. With respect to the guy he's not international spec. That would just be more musical chairs.

I'm not sure there's a learning curve here. The only thing that causes a bit of anxiety is a world record against us, an absolute thrashing seems to be in order.
