It is so easy for ervine and Williams to score runs ..clearly shows they are miles miles ahead of everyone else . Wonder why Dave hougton keeps saying the domestic setup now is better than early 2000s ..Williams Taylor ervine are products of that setup and they are still way ahead of everyone else

Generally speaking, I don't think he's particularly close to getting in their squad currently. But it would be a wise move from them to pick him for this specific series - he's been playing competitive cricket here whereas most of the other Irish guys won't have played outdoors for a couple of months. And obviously knows our guys and the conditions well. They should and probably will pick him for this series.

Jeez at this rate Williams will be the Logan Cup MVP even if he just plays half the games
I don't think Ervine and Raza come close when it comes to natural talent. He is also showing that he might just be the best spinner in the country too
well definitely with the lefties.

I sometimes ask myself if the big 3 really feel like they want to retire. I think deep down Regis has doubts if he can stay in the team in the long term because his form is up and down. So that move made sense for him and his family.
I'm looking at Williams, Raza and Ervine and I'm thinking why would they retire? They are still miles ahead of everyone else. Wes and the other kids probably need another 3 years to be consistent. So it's not like there are young players pushing hard for their spots. They are all still fit unlike BT and Hami in their final days with the team. Plus there is relative stability in the current environment with a coach they respect and a world class talent about to make us more competitive.
Also from a financial perspective the country is in shambles, ZC pays relatively well compared whatever else they might want to venture into unless they have some serious business acumen and saved well. It's not the environment where you just walk away from decent salaries, match fees, World cup bonuses, possible T20 gigs and a T10 tournament where they will probably get decent money if its organised properly. Why would they walk away now?

Yeah it's an interesting point. This time last year I reckon they were all desperate to retire. But the fact is we now have a great coach, the three of them are on very big salaries and consistently receiving it on time. The system at the moment is quite stable and everyone seems happy and the team/ZC seems to be relatively on the up, or at least feels like it might be. They probably aren't desperate to retire.
What we really don't want is all three retiring at the same time, that will fuck us over. We're in a slightly better position now with Ballance (he's a few years younger) but if all three go at once that will be brutal. Preferable one would retire next year, one in 2024 and one in 2025. Kind of a phased transition.

We’ve got a very serious problem with converting 50’s into centuries…
