Australia on the brink of elimination. All their hopes are now on Bangladesh beating Afghanistan.

That could be a battle of spinners, Shakib v Rashid, Noor v Rishad, Nabi v Mahmudullah.

If Bangladesh are sensible enough they should play Taskin ahead of Mahedi... I cannot imagine how Bangladesh can even think of dropping their best fast bowler.

Tanzim Sakib has been our best fast bowler. Our quickest in this tournament as well. Crack 145.7 in the group stage vs Nepal and has been in the 140-143 range all tournament. Cricinfo revised his classification from "right arm medium" to "right arm fast medium" during this tournament. His pace really has improved...he was only 130-135 range a few months ago.

Yes 100% agree. Afghanistan cannot claim foreign interference any more. The gender issue lies in the hands of Afghans.

There's a parallel with Zimbabwe. For as long as Zimbabweans allow divisive, tribalist, racist leaders to keep doing what they are doing, we will continue to have to go to the UN with a begging bowl for food aid for half the population. All the building blocks are there for a vibrant, successful economy (and cricket team) but the passive majority are as guilty as chefs.
Rules based international order - to whatever degree it existed before - is disintegrating in real time and will continue to crumble until all of humanity is back in the middle ages. The bad news is, we're all fucked. The good news is, we're all fucked.

Afghans quiet on a bouncy fast pitch in Kingstown. No wickets down, but this explosive opening pair going at just 4 an over in the 6th over.

Terrific fast bowling from BD to start.

More chances of me returning to my ancestral home back in Khulna, Bangladesh than the East Bengali top order contingent getting BD over the line on this pitch

Nah pitch isn't that bad. Afghan batters just didn't have the ability to cop with the pace and bounce. Afghan seamers won't get the same effect because they are probably even shorter than the Indian pacers, and they are about 10 kph slower than Bangladeshi pacers too. Tanzim and Taskin bowl 140-145. Farooqi is around 135 and Omarzai and Gulbadin are trundlers who bowl 125-130.

This is frankly speaking the easiest chase BD could have hoped for to make the semis. They need 116 at 9.5 an over to leapfrog both Afghanistan and Australia. Thats under 10 an over.

That being said, I do fully expect us to blow it...but I'm backing us to win this probably in the 16th over and thereby paving Australia's path to the semis!

Afghans are in! Overall a disgraceful tournament by BD...their choking would embarass even the Saffers.

Even a broken clock is right twice. Even the commentators were saying BD was going to win just not inside the 12 overs to go past Australia. Its hard for most teams with 3 rain breaks in a single innings.
