Theyre actually nursing guys that get well paid. Nice for those guys, but its not ideal. Its how it will end because its doubtful anyone will push them for a spot before they retire.

When Father Time catches up with you I think its quite sudden. Very few guys can play until 38. Obviously some guys have better ageing genes and can keep going as we know.
Do you slow down to save your body or do you play more to stay sharp?
I don't think the decline has much to do with your prior ability either. Lara is a good example. He lost it really quickly.

Ya I’m the approximate age of the big 3 and post 35 it’s downhill. The eyes don’t see as well as they used to, the hands take a split second longer to do what I tell them to. I’m physically as fit as I was 20 years ago in the moment but certainly feel it the next day.

Far from ideal but at their age and seniority they’ve earned the right to play as and when to get some time in the middle. Williams is just a freak the way he can turn up and turn it on from ball 1 having not picked a bat up in 6 months.

If they make it that far, we’ll see retirements after the t20 World Cup next year. Ervine first probably, landing himself a cushy job on the board. Raza and Williams being all rounders will get a few more years on the t10/t20 circuit should they fancy that but they don’t have a long future in Zim colours.

Those two may hang around until the England tour in 2025 and I’d say it’s unlikely any of them would get to the 2027 one day World Cup. That’s 4 years away which is a long time away in your late 30s  christ they’d be 41 then.

As for Eagles, well Masunda isn't the best keeper in the world but at least he can score a couple of runs occasionally. Probably a better bet than Cunningham. They could give Lennox Chando from Gladiators a chance, he had a really good NPL with bat and gloves.
Or the obvious signings for them would be Magodo or Tsiga.

I guess Marumani could try to keep wicket when he's back, although his injury is quite a bad one seemingly.
Masunda was awful when he kept the other week, missed 3 stumpings and was all over the place, almost cost them the game. The keeper is the most important fielding position so you can't get away with part timers. Think it was harsh to drop him though as his batting has been good.

Marumani is a part time keeper at best, I've said before that giving him the gloves will ruin him.

Chando is a good shout, was impressed with him in the NPL. Think he deserves a chance somewhere and the Eagles would be his best option.

One thing we all agree on is that Cunningham is just not good enough, it's just finding the right person to replace him.

Isn't Chando one of the 7 in Pakistan?

Ahh good shout, yes he is. That's good news, his NPL stats looked really tidy.

One thing they should do in these back to back games, in fact any series games, is have a toss for the first game and then next game the losing captain chooses what he wants to do.

He is a wicketkeeper for Amakhosi, these are his first few list A games but he he was part of the Tuskers squad last year.

His keeping is okay, I'd say he is more in the team for his batting, but interestingly he has been given the gloves ahead of Madande today unless that is a scorecard error.

That would be embarrassing unless madande has a slight injury but why risk playing him this close to the qualifiers if so.
