Get an awful lot of people still calling them the Chevrons on Twitter as well. I always bite my tongue - it's a name from when the national side was reduced to playing in someone else's domestic competition and not really one to be proud of, imo.
Going back to my 2007(!) suggestion at the top of the thread, should be the Flames.
Team Nickname?

Re: Team Nickname?
Firstly why is everyone so desperate for them to have a name, who cares?
secondly zimbirds makes the most sense. Kinda tarantino-esque too.
Although i do like the red army.
Reminds me of the 'All nightmare long' Metallica clip.

Re: Team Nickname?
I always wondered how the name Chevrons came about. I thought at the time maybe there was some sponsorship gig with the energy company... either way, I guess the name has sort of stuck and it's not too bad. It's hard to see it truly catching on though...
I reckon the Zimbabwe cricket team will just be known by that name, or Zimbabwe/Zimbabweans etc just like the Australian cricket team are called Australia or the Australians.
To follow the red theme mentioned a few posts above... the "Red Lions" has history attached to it. The rebels used that name to tour England in 2004 or 2005. And of course the Harare Sports Club emblem is a red lion.
